Costom POI Alert Not Working

Hello,

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350. I set-up the McDonalds custom poi from this site. I named the data csv file, the icon and the sound alert all the same name. I used poi downloader and used the manual process to put this in my Nuvi 350. I set-up an alert for 400 ft. The custom poi is in my Nuvi and a McDonalds next to work is on the spreadsheet.

At lunch I set-up a "Where To" to take me right by the McDonalds, however, there was no alert notication or any picture on my map. How do I make this work for my custome pois? Thanks

If you go to where to,my

If you go to where to,my locations, extras and touch custom pois you see the McDonalds you downloaded right? If you selected that location from your custom poi file and didn't get the alert you may want to check and make sure you don't have double extensions for the files. Most cases all you need to do is type in the name and the extensions will take care of themselves. Also check your settings and make sure the alerts are turned on.

My alerts for photocameras

My alerts for photocameras is working. I just did a rename of the 3 McDonald files so they were all the same. I did not do anything with the file extensions. What else? Thanks

Run a simulation mode and see if the alerts go off.Not sure how you do that on 350 but I go to setting, navigation and turn off gps and run the test. For me it is the bong sound alert.

Let me know if it works?

Click on tools>folder options>view and uncheck "hide extensions of known file types" if it has a check next to it...
Then check your file names to be sure they are the same except for extensions....

.

Also, if the coordinates for the location don't place it within about 50 feet from the road, you won't get an alert.

And 400 feet is probably way to short of an alert. You could travel 400 feet in a matter of a few seconds depending upon your speed.

Thanks for the info.

POI sound alert not working.

I'm having a simular situation with my 260W. It's won't accept MP3's but I'm told via (tricks and tips) it will accept WAV files. Well I've converted some and even made my own. i used 44.11 kHz. 16 bit. Mono 86 kb/sec. saved as a wav then added to my custom POI's along with the other two like: Dunkin_Donuts_Redlight.cvs
Dunkin_Donuts_Redlight.bmp
Dunkin_Donuts_Redlight.wav
using POI loader 2.5.2 and sox.exe 14.0.1 (in the same folder) uploaded on my sd card. in my Nuvi. It says: Congrat. Blah blah blah. success.
All I get is still the red alert bar (on top) of the screen with the default Bong-Bong. It just wont play the Wav. What could I be doing incorectly????

I had this same problem until I installed an earlier version (2.4.0.0). Now the wave files play on my 200w.

Thanks for the very detailed explanation -- it eliminates many questions back and forth. Most of the failures with people who have been as careful as yourself, result from having the wrong sox file. Gary has gone an extra step to help avoid the confusion. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16728

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

wrong sox.

ahhhh. I see. This goes against the tricks and tips i've been reading. Question: Can I simply add this new sox version your pointing me to to the folder with the poi-loader and existing sox.file. Or do I have to delete the old sox.file?
Also is there validity to perhaps loading an older version of poi loader as mentioned above. Can I get an older version from Garmin?
I guess I'll try one change at a time to see if it makes a difference. (It won't be untill I get home from work) SHHHHH.

Oh crap; Please forgive me for not saying this earlier: "THANK YOU FOLKS" for all the help. This site is superb. I've learned soooo darn much. You guys are extremely helpful. It's just sooo great to see this.

Only One SOX File

The file name is the same and Windows won't let you have two files with the exact same name in the same folder. So, you can either delete the old SOX.EXE file or when you go to extract the new SOX.EXE file into the POI Loader folder, Windows will ask you if you want to overwrite the current file - click YES.

This version of SOX.EXE worked for me with version 2.5.2 of POI Loader. I never tried it with an older version. Maybe someone else here has and can report their experience.
