You can easily test it by
You can easily test it by hooking up the car adapter thru the cradle. Its not required to be plugged into the cig lighter for it to work.

You can test the receivewr by plugging it into the uniot as discribed, the light should go green on the plug when it is locked onto a station if traffic is a reported inthe metro area you should be able to see it from the main screen by touching the blue diamond in the lower right hand corner
