Converting DMS to D.d

Looking for an excel spreadsheet or any other method to convert a file with ° ' " (in one column) to decimals, the file I have has over 12000 lats and longs. Each lat and long is in a separate column.

Formula

While I don't have what you are requesting, degrees are made up of 60 minutes of arc (') and each minute, 60 seconds of arc ("). The means 1 arcminute = 0.016666 degrees and 1 arcsecond = 0.000277 degrees.

In Excel you could open your file and define each field degrees/arcminutes/arcseconds as a separate column, then write a formula that applies the appropriate multiplier for those two fields and then adds them together, outputting the D.d.

That should get you where you need to go if no one has a template already made.

If you want to send over the file (or a part of it), and you're not in too big of a hurry, I'll write a macro or a program to get the job done. Just send me an email via my 'contact' line and I'll send you an email address that accepts attachments.

Do you have to do each coordinate individually? All 12,000?

I sent you the converted file.

Update: This option has been programmed into 'POI Verifier II'. It will now convert a file of degree coordinates to decimal coordinates.
