Guess I should introduce myself....

Top of the Mornin' to ya!

I've been grousing around POI factory for a few weeks now so I thought an intro and a Howdy Do were finally in order. I've been messing around with GPSrs for 9-10 years now mostly with Garmin recreational type units. I did take an intensive 3 day workshop a few years back using Trimble 'survey grade' equipment with sub-meter accuracy and collection protocols and DGPS. I recently picked up a Nuvi 260 as my first navigational type unit and being somewhat of a computer tinkerer, I've been intrigued by the capability of developing POIs for my office applications. Although my 'office' owns 2 Nuvis, there are another 10-15 privately owned throughout the office that can benefit from the development and maintainence of Custom POIs.

Some of my technical details that you might find of interest...

1. I have a BS in Geography and have worked in the field of Geography and computer mapping for the last 25 years.
2. I have extensive knowledge of geocoding applications and methodology.
3. Extensive you say? Yes, I have personally directed the geocoding of millions of addresses.
4. You say you like maps? I have been directly involved in the creation and printing of literally millions of paper maps.....each one unique!
5. I work for an agency that will soon deploy 150,000 GPS enabled, handheld computers to conduct field operations.

This doesn't mean I'm an expert but I will acknowledge that I will forget more than some people will ever know about the technology.
