Redlight POI volume too loud

I have downloaded the redlight camera POIs, with icons, and an amusing voice notification audio file. The problem is that the volume for the Redlight warning is excessively loud, to the point of being extremely disconcerting in a quiet environment. Is there any way to adjust the volume of just the Redlight POI audio file? Thanks

I'm not sure about the 660 but

On the 760 got to tool>settings>Volume>navigation

set to desired level...

Any audio editing s/w will allow you to adjust the level of an audio file.

Thanks, I thought the Volume

Thanks, I thought the Volume on the Quicktime player only adjusted for playback on my computer. I will check it out and enjoy the quiet...thanks

If mp3 ...

I assume you're using a mp3 file. If the rest of the GPS volume is acceptable, one way is convert it to a wav file, use an easily obtainable wave editor to reduce the volume, and convert it back to mp3. There may be an easier way, but this works.

If you want to send me an email via my contact link, tell me which sound file you're using, and give me an email address that accepts attachments, I'll do it for you.

audio editing software

Ya the downloadable alerts on this site, or other MP3 and WAV files you might run across, do not always track nicely in over all volume with the sounds and voices of your GPS. So one audio file might be twice as loud as most of the built in sounds of your GPS and another file might by half the volume.

So usually you can use a free audio editing program like Audacity (available for both Windows and Mac computers), among other apps, to adjust the overall volume of the clip to better match your GPS. While you are there you can also clip off any longish silence at the beginning or end of the track or even clips out parts your don't like.

By the way, QuickTime PRO (paid upgrade) I think can probably do it, but QuickTime (free) player can't.

Good luck,
PT

Just a note on what was found with the Red light audio file. While the whole file was recorded at a high volume level, the big problem was that the last half of the file was recorded at such a high level that it was recorded with distortion. With a wave/mp3 audio editor, I cut the peak volume of the last half down to the peak volume level of the lead-in; but when the file is already recorded with distortion, there's not much that can be done except reduce the volume of the distortion. Before posting, verifying these audio files are distortion-free would really help.

RT, Can you tell me which file that was and send me a copy so that I can upload it to the site please?

Thanks,

Miss POI, as RT mentioned, this won't solve the problem of the sound being distorted. What is needed is a new recording, but I don't believe this is one of the POI-Factory redlight sound files -- none of them are "amusing".

not our red light file

I don't have this problem with the rd file DL here, is probably one of the add on files that are available.

Only tried one file

I'm not saying all of these files are recorded into distortion; only tried the one I changed for sbalogh. I sent the info, along with the changed file, to Miss POI. It's better than it was, but not completely rid of distortion.

I had the same question

I had the same question yesterday.

What I have done is put a different mp3 file from this site and it works good.

So, are you saying it WAS one of the redlight sound files from this site? Which one?
