Confused Nuvi

My Nuvi 260 has never failed me since I bought last April. Today it was totally confused. When I turned it on and I had all 5 green satellite bars, I pressed GO to my Dr. office and when the screen came it showed an area with street names that I had no idea where I was. It then went into recalculate; the new screen had a different area and street names than the first, still not right. All the time I am in my driveway, so I know all my streets and areas. I shut it off rebooted and it worked fine. Has this happened to anyone else or why this happened? On the way home, it worked fine.

Sometimes a Fix isn't a Fix

Paul,

When I've been flying as a passenger on an airliner, there have been times when my Nuvi(s) have gotten a poor quality fix, and then soon afterwards gotten a more accurate one which resulted in outrageously high speeds.

Could a similar thing have been going on with yours?

Joe

I've seen this once on my

I've seen this once on my 200....and only once. Being in the software business, I'll chalk it up to an undocumented feature smile

Thanks

I hope that it is a one time event. I am waiting to buy a 760. but I have been reading about all the problems the 7xx are having. I guess that we are still on the edge of the GPSr automobile systems.

Looking for satellites

Paul,

I have not had the situation you mention happen on my NUVI, but it has happened a few times on the GPS I use for my daily workouts.

I have had to use a program to recalibrate the workout GPS because it was having problems acquiring enough signal from enough satellites to allow it to work properly. Sometimes if I turn the unit off in Arizona and travel over a few hundred miles on vacation, when I turn the unit back on it really takes time to figure out where on this big blue marble it really is when it wakes up. If I am under trees or near buildings sometimes I get false map information and false speed readings. At 57 years old I know I cannot be traveling 52 mph on my bicycle even in my dreams! I even had the company replace the unit because they told me a chip in the GPS was malfunctioning causing it to take extremely long to acquire signals and misinterpreting those signals once they were received.

Although your explanation of different screens is totally different than what I experience with my workout GPS.

Sorry I cannot give you an answer, but I will be following what those on this forum with the technical know-how have to say.

:-)

Beauty, I love it! laugh out loud laugh out loud laugh out loud

Every once in awhile I have to reboot my PC after it goes wonky. Then it works great for weeks. CPUs and software, the PC & GPS have that in common.
