Please include towns and phone numbers when available

I truly appreciate all the hard work involved in creating POI listings and .csv files. I find it especially helpful when town names are included with street addresses and coordinates. It's even a bigger bonus when phone numbers are included. Is there a simple way to modify some existing .csv files missing such information? For example, the compilation of state parks .csv file would be enhanced with town names. Just a suggestion. Thanks.

This also holds true when submitting corrections

If store #s and or addresses, phone #s etc are submitted with coordinates it makes it much easier for the maintainer of the files...

Amen to that! I find that the POI's that include additional details in the name are much more useful. I'm turned off with POI's that are a couple of hundred of entries, everyone of them named "Jack's Supermarkets," for instance.
"Jack's Supermarkets - Memphis" and "Jack's Supermarkets - Knoxville" are far more informative.

address and phone number

When I batch geocode the locations, street address are required while phone numbers are not.

It's an extra step to add the phone numbers, but something I could look into.

Next time. wink

POI Info

When I build my files, I always include:

POI name
Address
Phone (where applicable)
Website address (where applicable)

When I built the Tampa Bay Attractions file, I found I had room to include the website address if there was one. That way, folks can plan ahead by reading up on the attraction before they hit the road.

I haven't bothered doing it for restaurant chains, for example, because it seems redundant and would just take up unnecessary space in the file.

At least include the State for starters...

Agreed. I recently made that suggestion for the latest Speed Trap POI file that was uploaded here and all it had for every entry was the coordinates and then "Speed Trap". That was it. Not even a State let alone a city location.

I believe all POI files should have some sort of location information in them. If a national POI file then at the very least, put the state for each entry. For Regional and Local POI files where the State in implied in the POI file (e.g. "Gas Stations of Georgia") then at the very least add the towns.

Some people like to take larger POI files, e.g. national ones, and edit them down to a more regional version for personal use. But like the Speed Trap POI file, if there is absolutely no info on where each is, you can not easily do that and many people may opt to simply not use that POI file.

In my own opinion, while it would be great if every POI entry had Name, complete address, & phone number, this could at times be a lot of work for some people (who are volunteering their time), it would be nice if at least the minimum amount of info is given so that someone would use a mobile phone to call information to get specifics if really needed (e.g. "Joe Blo's" grocery store located in Backwoods, Alabama would be enough to be able to find them through directory assistance).

Cheers,
PT

PT well put I second that comment know I have wished some of the poi's I have looked at and downloaded would have been more helpful if the city or state was there.

Absolutely agree - and that

Absolutely agree - and that was the point of my original posting. At the very least we can set good examples in whatever POIs we create/submit. Thanks!
