GPX files VS CSV files

Hi everybody,

Here is a little question for the pros....

I always download CSV file (+ soud & icon) for my garmin Nuivi 660 and everything works perfectly.

Now I see in the POI section a file that interest me a lot but it's in GPX data.

Can I (easily) transfer it to a CSV format ???
(any links or way to do it)

Can I download both CSV & GPX to my unit ???

You can convert

You can convert the .csv files to .gpx format or vice versa using a program called POI Edit.

I believe both formats can be uploaded to your unit using POI Loader.
The .gpx format is capable of showing more information on an individual POI on your unit.
Don't happen to use it myself but many , many do !

Potentially, a .gpx file may contain a lot more information than a (Garmin) .csv file. Therefore, a conversion will normally result in this information being discarded - which obviously, would be a shame!

Garmin's POI Loader reads .gpx files, so there is no issue in loading them on your GPSr.

GPX is a standard format for transferring information between gps-related software. For example, Google Earth and Google Maps can both import .gpx files. Neither can import Garmin-format .csv files.

I believe that http://www.poiedit.com/downloads.htm
is still a valid URL.
If not do a Google on POI Edit

I'll give it a try

And we will see....

Of course, if I can proceed without any conversion it would be great (an easier...)

Thanks to you guys for the infos !!!

No Need To Convert

POI Loader works with both gpx and csv files, so there is no need to convert a gpx file to csv.

Use GPX

If you have the choice use the GPX file. GPX files can contain lots of extra goodness such as having the phone number, etc. I like being able to just punch the screen of the GPS and dial the business.

You're right

The phone number and dial directly from the screen aspect of the GPX file can be very practical !!!

Thanks
