Chit Chat Thread for the week of August 11, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

New Laptops

I love the new laptops have figured how to make the work faster with out making them Hotter. The heat is what usually kills laptops...and not having air flow from being against a lap...and not a hard surface.

New laptop

I got a new laptop about a month ago. Know the problem with some of the keys moved around. Finally learned most of them. Only problem is that I still use an old desktop sometimes. Make some surprising boo-boos at times.

Fuel Prices

I drive a diesel truck- while on a recent trip, I found diesel in northern Texas for $4.269 so I filled up. Never saw it cheaper. Then In Albuquerque at the Flying J it was $4.299. In So Cal it is still $4.70 or more. Remember when it was cheaper than gas? Glad I don't have to drive everyday!

Fuel Prices

I remember buying gas for 17 cents a gallon while on vacation in Altanta, GA. There was a gas war on... and the regular price then was 32 cents a gallon and I thought that was high!

I am one that doesn't think oil came from dinosaurs... don't believe it. It may be an expendable entitity, but I don't think it will be expended in my life time or my kids life times.

The real problem with oil is that a "few" have access to the whole of the oil therefore they charge by their greed, not by their love.

It's all about the money.

But that's one man's opinion.

Fuel Prices

When we both can remember those prices I think we are showing our age but proud of it.

I feel like my eyes are going to pop out of my head. I got a brand new laptop yesterday and I will be in that adjustment period for the next few days.

I am used to having only one program at a time updated instead of every program on my computer. I am excited about having a faster machine now that will not have me sitting around waiting to process my request.

Using the updated version of Microsoft Outlook is really cool, I am an organization fanatic and I love the new layout. I can see my calendar and emails at the same time. This is so cool.

Just felt like sharing,

Miss POI

P.S. if you see strange messages in your emails from me in the next day or two that is because the paste button is where the send button should be. I have made that mistake already a few times.

I think that the old laptop knew that it's days were numbered, it started to make a really bad weezing sound two or three days before the new one showed up. It was the fan and I was really worried about it.

hi, i wanted to state that is exactly how i felt when i first got my laptop. its is so much faster and better than my old one. contrats again.

Gas prices heading the wrong way

So the price of a barrel of oil increases a couple of bucks yeaterday (Wednesday). Today, the price of a gallon of gas jumps ten cents to $3.69. Are we the ones getting drilled or what.

Years before there was Le Car, there was the infamous Renault Dauphine. The most technically advanced thing in it was its horn. Two distinct switchable tones - high or low. The rest of the car was - how would the French put it - la caa caa.

Ok I remember the Renault had one and used the hand crank to start it quite often. Now let's test memories. Anyone remember the Reo, Kaiser Fraizer, Studabaker, Hudson, or Nash. Good old days.

Metropolitan!

We had a Nash Metropolitan. Two seater convertible. Always a two-tone body, either green and white, orange and white, red and white or black and white. Fun little car. Four teenagers could pick it ip and turn it around.

How about the old Ramblers (not the AMC version). Remeber the front seats (split bench) would fold all the way down and butt up against the back seat so that there was a bed-like surface. Gee, I was just a young kid when we had one of those. I wonder why all the teenagers in the neighborhood wanted to borrow that car. wink

I don't like

I don't like the 5 PM new tracck forecast as far as you're concerned Gary - keeps you in Tampa on the high wind side the whole way up the coast. Not to speak of the heavy rain side also.

5 PM forecasted track is at:

Keep a close watch on this one Gary !!!!!

BUT, please do follow the advice to next time check out such (potential) nonsense on snopes.com first.

Obama's plane

First of all, good for you for bothering to check out one of the thousands (it seems) of dumb "facts" about Obama, rather than swallowing it whole.

Quote:

I recently had to check an email about the Obama campaign jet(no American flag on it), checked it out on Snopes and it was true. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/airplane.asp

But as you'll notice on that same page, McCain's plane also has no American flag on it (at the time of the photo, anyway).
But you know what? Once again, those of us who want this campaign to be about the serious issues our nation faces are left to wonder: "So what?"
Is either of these guys having a flag on their plane or lapel going to make my house worth $1 more when I plan to sell it, or make my steaks or my kids' colleges more affordable?
