Can anyone suggest how they organize their POI's.
ie: by state, type etc.
Thanks!

Organized POI

MrKenFL,
As I am new to using a nuvi (260W)and the custom POI features. Is it possible to enter them as you have..The different groups then the different list(s) below each? or did you combine the list?
Thanks!

Hi ueler1191,

You can create "subfolders" inside your main POI Folder, to "organize" your poi files, by category.

Just remember, you can't create any subfolders "within" those subfolders. (In other words, no folders inside the subfolder(s) you create).

HTH (hope that helps)

If your talking about new creations of poi well I would think it would depend on what it is..

Most times the poi is by type them by state.. again depends what your looking for

break down by poi on your gps.. well I would think most break it down by type or store.. etc.. this way you see the 1st 50 or so closest to your location.

is this the same with the

is this the same with the Nuvi 350?

Organizing POIs

For both my Garmin 660 and Garmin 360. I created a folder named "Custom POIs" and inside this folder I created other folders with names such Fuel; Food; Lodging; Recreation; Antiques; etc.

I then copied my POIs to the appropriate folder. Since I use many different POI files, I use POI loader to put the files on several SD cards. The only ones I put in the Nuvi's memory are reed-light cameras, and those files which I maintain on this website.

If you load too many POI files on one medium, it will slow down the search process. Hope this helps you out.

Organizing POIs

If I understand this correctly...
If create "subfolders" inside the main POI Folder, to "organize" poi files, by category. Then I upload this file via POI loader to my Nuvi 260W and I go to custom I will see the main POI folder and the subfolders listed with the POIs in each?

Correct?

Correct

Then you can open up any category you want to check but all categories will still work! You can look for 50 closest of the category of special interest !

Thanks as this will make things alot easier, instead of scrolling through a huge list.

Missunderstood..

Sorry didnt read that correct.. this is a way to use Subdirectorys to get the results before updateing them to your Garmin gps

[Top folder]

So a good excsample would be like this:

Read This from MM.

This is a cut and paste from a post made by MM. She gets all the credit on this one. Hope you dont mind me doing this MM.

You can have subfolders under your main folder, if you want. The folders will create categories. You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.

Here are some screenshots of what it would look like.

This is a shot of the folder and files on my computer.

This is how the first level shows up on my Zumo.

When I select the National Parks category, this is what I get.

Then if I select National Monuments, I get this.
