I have a 260W unit and I have downloaded and installed the Rest Area POI with associated Icons and Alerts. The Alerts and Icon have the same name as the Rest Area POI and I used the POI Loader to install on my unit. Today was the 1st time that I have used my new Garmin as I was traveling up I-75 in Ohio. Even though I can go to Custom POIs and see all Rest Areas listed there were No Icons or Alerts as I approached a Rest Area. I tried Zooming to all various distances nothing ever appeared on the MAP. What could I be doing wrong.
Thanks

The 260W does not have an MP3 player, so you cannot use an MP3 file as an alert. You can use wav files, but you'll have to work a bit to do it -- search if interested, many posts. You didn't say what file you are using, but it should be the RestAreasCombined file -- the others are hit or miss. Are you using a Windows computer and did you load the file by using POI Loader in manual mode and set an alert distance? Alerts for proximity POIs are not set by default.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Not all of the other rest areas are a hit and miss some have been updated to match the combined files.

If "some have been updated," then some have not. That would make it hit or miss as to whether you end up with a file that is the equivalent of the combined.

Still don't work

I have done what this link says exactly and I have converted the MP3s to wav so the 260W can play them but still doesn't work
.
The nuvi 260w does not have an MP3 player. The second to last statement in the FAQ about loading Custom Alerts is that the unit must have an MP3 player for MP3 files to work as Custom Alerts.
However, several users have found a work around with WAV files, but you must load a file named SOX.EXE for it to work.
If you search the forum for SOX.EXE, you will find a long discussion with instructions.

When I pointed out that the 260 doesn't have an MP3 player, I asked whether you set alerts in the manual mode of POI Loader. You didn't answer. Also, there are two different Sox files and only one works; did you search and find the link to the correct one?

Yes I set Alerts in Manual Mode. I didn't notice that there were 2 Sox files ,I'll check which one I got once I return home from trip.
Thanks
Rest stops
I stand corrected by someone smarter than me.

I can see why my Alerts may not work because I may have the wrong Sox file but shouldn't I still be able to see Custom Icons?

Are you zoomed in to 300 feet or less in one of the 2D map modes?
