Nuvi 760 locking up frequently. Isolated problem?

Since I upgraded my 760 to the 2009 maps, it has been frequently locking up on me. It completely stops responding to everything other than a reboot.
I have spoken to Garmin about the issue and they are willing to swap out my unit for a new one.
However, I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this issue?
I did install the most recent (7/7/08) system update for the 760, however ,that did not resolve the issue.
Yup
Start up the 750, and get to the main screen. Then touch Tools/Settings/System then "about" (on the bottom). That will show you the software (firmware actually) version, and your unit serial number.

Yes - The 7xx series has a firmware bug that causes the unit to lock up when powered on when a POI TourGuide alert is in range. The the link to my discussion thread below:

I was also facing the same problem after upgrading to 3.10. then I talked to garmin tech support they send a file of firmware with a lower verson "i believe its 2.90". Since then it is working fine (knock on wood).

By the way is any one facing a problem with battery? My 760 always gave me a warning of low battery as soon as i took off the charger.

In doing this, below is what you introduced back into the unit - take a look at what was fixed and decide for yourself if it was good to go back.
Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.10:
-Improve handling of the situation where overlapping map data is present on the device.
-Fixed fleet management interface route calculation issue.
Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.00:
-Corrected issues with GPI files causing unit crashes
-Corrected the expiring MSN Direct stocks after 5 days instead of 3
-Corrected clipping at the beginning of voice instructions
-Corrected compatibility issue with some MSN Direct receivers
-Corrected issue with web favorites category display other types of points in MSN v2
-Corrected local events not removing some dates correctly in MSN v2
-Corrected GPI route display issues
-Corrected Text language disappearing when changing modes
-Corrected issue with Asian language support
-Corrected issue with not being able to access additional information about GPI point
-Corrected shutdown during postal code lookup

Hope you enjoy your 750 half as much as I have mine. Absolutely no problems with it (knock on wood), and have found it to be the best device I've owned thus far. Keep us posted.........

Thanks Joel, I love the 750 - Very responsive, an excellent GPS to be sure. FYI my GPS came with the 2008 map program. After contacting Garmin they sent me a link to download the 2009 maps free of charge and the program said that I had to update software. I downloaded and installed the 2009 maps and updated my software. Now I didn't see anything that said it was firmware 3.10. I'm wondering if it was. Anyway all seems to be working fine. Is there anyway to determine if I have 3.10 or not.

I found out how to determine the firmware and I do have 3.10. so far all seems to be working fine.
It is good to know that I can go to 3.00 until the problem with 3.10 is resolved if necessary.

Postal Code Lookup? How does one do that? There was another thread of someone wanting to do that and the answer was that Garmin does not have that option. And if it does, I sure can't find it anywhere.

The Canada maps have searchable postal codes. The US City Navigator maps do not.
nuvi 760 freezing
http://gpsinformation.org/perry/nuvi/ here u have drivers for different types of nuvi`s......here in slovenia (not slovakia) people are haveing similar problems (me either ) on nuvi 760 series with freezing. I read on our gps forum ( www.alter.si ) and they said to "upgrade" nuvi back to fw 2,50!!! I did that myself and problems with freezin dissapeared! Maps: CN Europe 2008 and adriaroute (detailed map of slovenia croatia and bosnia and hercegovina) If used separately there is no proflems with freezing (fw 3.00++ )othervise nuvi freezes!

I have discovered fw 3,10 last week, but due summertime my nuvi is constantly on the road and i did`t want to risk freezing me up on the road, that`s why i didn`t mention/recomended it in my last post!!!
I will test that fw 3,10 soon and report if any problems will occur!
