Should We Petition Garmin?

The biggest shortfall of custom POI's is that they currently cannot be combined with the built-in POIs.

I'm sure there is a way for Garmin to program the software so that all POI's can be combined.

Should we start a petition drive to ask Garmin to make this a priority for the next software upgrade?

I don't think this would work

If you add custom POIs to the ones pre-loaded, you would end up with a bunch of duplicate and would have to decide which one is correct. You would also have a lot of duplicates in the same location and a conflict of icons on the page. Another consideration would be the inability to set alerts for them.

I believe keeping them separate and customizable is the way to go.

Now, if garmin would place the extras button on the first page with the POI button, that would be nice.

Garmin isn't the only one, all manufacturers do the same with their models. So I wish you luck with your petition, I do believe it would just fall on deaf ears.

Would be nice

I understand about the duplicates, but they should show up in the search. A search of POI's should search all POI not just preloaded ones.

That is one feature that I

That is one feature that I am sure everyone who has a Garmin that supports additional POI's would love to have to be able include customize POI's

My idea...

I'd just like to be able to CHANGE the built in poi's to correct them when they're wrong. Fat chance of that too, me thinks. :rolls eyes:

That is one feature that I

I personally would like the custom poi's to stay the way they are now and not have them mixed in with the favorites that are loaded by garmain. Just my preference.

Listing wants?

What I'd really like to do is delete some of the poi's that come with the unit. Have found many that are doubles of what is already there not to mention locations for shops that are long closed. (But then again there are a lot of things that I want that I'll never get.)

Kind of like custom poi's being seperate so I can search them quicker, but I can see where in some cases it would be cool to be together. Don't really need or want it but if enough others want it I'll put my name on it to try to help out.

many people, many wishes

It seems that we all have different preferences.

Yes, I would like to be able to update the built-ins, as to get rid of the stale ones, and add new ones, but having them separate doesn't bother me.

My wish would be to make custom POIs show up on the map at higher levels of zoom, similar to Favorites.

I see POI as money makers in the future

I bet you in the future we will see these makers charging the hotels and eatery's to get on the maps or better visability on the maps. Garmin and others want as much control as they can keep over the POI's

Garmin as a middle man, POI as money makers in the future. Maybe

I don't believe Garmin controls the POI's any more than they do the maps!

Due to the volume of road network changes and Points of Interest additions such as banks/ATMs, gas stations, restaurants and hotels, NAVTEQ recommends users update their maps each year to maintain optimal navigation system performance. In fact, according to NAVTEQ research, drivers report that their overall navigation system performance improves when a new map update is installed.

Me too

I don't want them mixed up because I trust the custom POI's more than I do the Garmin ones. When I search for something specific, I want to know that the result is a POI that has been actively managed by an interested compiler, not just gathered as one of 6 million with minimal verification for accuracy. I also know that any inaccuracies I find in a POI file that I download here will be taken seriously and updated in a timely fashion.

I pray that they NEVER combine them. confused

A better use for the petition...

A better use for the petition would be to have Garmin change the way the custom POI's and alerts are handled. I would love the ability to turn certain custom POI's on and off at will without having to reload them. Here's an example:

I leave the redlight and speed camera POI alerts on all the time. I would turn on the Starbuck's POI alert when I wanted coffee so that it wouldn't alert every time I pass a Starbucks. After getting coffee, I would turn it back off so it doesn't alert until the next time I want coffee.

It would also save me from having to reload the POI's every time I take a trip and my set of travel POI's that I don't use in my everyday commuting.

Just a thought...

A better use for the petition

Using the search feature for custom POIs is so easy not sure what else they could do. I use it all the time to find an ATM machine for my bank, close to current location.
