Removing un-wanted alerts

I could use some help in removing alerts.

I have down loaded some of the POI files from the download contributions page, which were kindly contributed by others. Though, pleased with the POI’s, an alert status was accompanied with some POI files. That is, when close to coffee shops, Deli’s, stores, etc., the alert alarm sounds. This is annoying.

I opened the file in their “excel’ format and examined for alert codes or cells without success. When using the Garmin Loader I was cautious to assure that the alert status was not checked, except for the red light camera file only. Yet, the alert still sounds for many generic establishments.

My questions is, how do I dis-arm the alert codes for these unwanted alerts, other then red-light camera.

Mike

Example?

Give us an example of one of the files AND what you named it, and we should be able to ascertain what is going on. Did you put any numbers in the filenames?

alerts

One difficulty is that I have downloaded many POI files and I need to search each file for which list the establishment the alert is given, I’m looking now. IE., “Campbell Resort” in Chalen, WA alerted yesterday. I believe this entry POI is the WiFi files. I’ll continue doing my homework.

Alert

I traced these alerts down to one file (I believe) named “Washington Free WIFI_V.csv”. It appears that this is no longer available on POI’s web page, but I can send it. I located it by 1) searching my .cvs files for the name “Campbell”, in “excel” I see no special alert columns’ or tags, there are 840 entries, then 2) navigating on my NUVI 650 to “custom POI’s” >this file, >the establishment, and their details to fine an alert set at 1000 feet. But, perhaps it is the “ _V “ in the file name that sets the alert.
Mike

The _V only means

The _V only means that the file was successfully run thru POI Verifier application.

The file is still here, and I can see no reason why it would alert, but the fact that you say it shows an alert for 1000 ft leads me to believe something went wrong when you ran POI Loader in manual mode.

Try reloading and look to see if it still shows an alert being set.

problem file

don't have MM's knowledge, but is there any chance the problem is caused by a folder name, rather than a file name, that would trigger the alert

Alert

I followed your suggestion and reloaded the POI’s through the loader, careful to assure that this particular file did not have the alert checked. When viewing the POI in the garmin, it appears that the alert did not load. So, I hope this problem is fixed. Thank you All!

Great! Do you realize you can run a simulated route to check it without actually burning any gas?

Just for future information ... to my knowledge alerts will not be produced by information in the folder name only by the information in the file or filename itself.

Proximity Alert file names and distances

HI MM, I'm a newbie could you please list what file names trigger alerts. Maybe what proximity alert distances is best for them.

Recently I loaded a 'TourGuide Offbeat Attractions' file with 52,800 ft proximity alert. It triggered so many alerts I nearly counldn't get my pin number in to disable the file.

Thanks in advance

How about removing an unwanted speed alert....

I have a simular problem with a speed alert. I have no idea of where or how I got a speed alert warning on my 750. I just noticed it withing the last couple of weeks, but it is possible that it has been there quite a while. I only drive in that area maybe once or twice a month.
I had heard the default alarm once or twice before, but had not looked at the screen to see why the alarm was sounding. (750 was laying in a small tray on the dashboard). Yesterday I looked, and it was a speed alert letting me know I was exceeding the 19 MPH speed limit. (Boy... I must have done something really dumb.. 19 MPH???). I have many custom poi's loaded (POILoader reported that 42631 poi's were successfully loaded). sad
Any ideas of where I should begin to look?

Look for a POI filename with "19" in it

Look at your saved POI files on your computer. One of them has "19" in the filename somewhere, most likely. Putting numbers in the filename automatically sets up a speed alert on that file. When you find it, rename it and reload your POIs.

Bingo!..... and thanks...

Bingo!! Thanks johnc.....
If one would learn to scroll down when looking at a list of files, one would probably notice the file with the number 19 stuck right in the name.....
Excuse me..... I am putting my dunce cap back on and going back to sit in the corner for awhile.....

Again.... many thanks....
