WA - Western Australia

It kind of makes sense; an Australian voice will use some Australian abbreviations. Similar comments have been made of using British Emily.

Search for "pronounce" and "pronunciation" and you'll find there are some humorous threads of various mis-pronunciations that our GPS TTS voices generate.

Dr. for Drive is pronounced Doctor.
Assoc. for associates is pronounced associated.
St. for Street is sometimes pronounced Saint.

There are a few others that I do not recall at the moment.

Daniel is the voice of our 680, and while he mispronounces Dr. and St. he says Washington for "WA".

If I set a favourite named "Bellingham, WA" and navigate there, our Karen voice pronounces "WA" as Washington...

Could you give more details about the store? Is it a built-in or custom POI?

I have custom POIs which are just labeled the name of the city, with WA beside it. Those are ALWAYS called "Western Australia." When I take an exit off I-5, and the exit leads to WA 529 or WA 523, for example, "Karen" says "Western Australia 529 or 523." This is a daily routine. She has not failed to say Western Australia every time I take 1-5, with those exits.

I have a 780 and previously used a 650 and both would say "Western Australia" for WA when using the Karen voice. I've just learned to live with it though since I really like her accent. I also get "Doctor" for Dr too.

Wonder if an update fixes this. I'm still at 3.0 right now on my 780.

Karen calls Washington state highways "Western Australia" 14, but only when she is accompanied by the display stating "WA-14." This is the same glitch as the "saint/street" for "ST" and "doctor/drive" for "DR."

I think it's kinda cute.

How do you think the people in the real WA (Australia) feel about being mistaken for somewhere in the US of A.....

I happily put up with WA so I can dream on, and my wife lets me so long as I give her the pink car as her icon.
For a while I gave up on Karen because of how she pronounced numbered routes, but I eventually came back as I knew I would.

Being an ex-pat Aussie, I had to use the Karen voice, nothing like hearing a decent Aussie accent.

As I'm from the Aussie WA, it would be fun to drive around Washington State so that I could hear "Western Australia" every now and then.

Here in Virginia, the voice reads "VA" as "vah" so when I go on a Virginia route, e.g., VA-206 it will say "vah 206".

it's too bad they don't have Canadian voices as there are often mispronunciations of abbreviations here as well.

Just LOVED meeting Canadians in Europe - right after someone thought they were from the US of A..... Aussies can pick the people from Canada - they just have to talk "abooot" something....
