johnm405, are you really

johnm405, are you really running 6.14.1? Do you see the new icon, new splash screen? What version is shown when you do the pulldown menu Help-->About MapSource?

If you do please share with the community how to change to the small icons since the option in 6.13.7 does not exist with 6.14.1.

V 6.14.1 allows turning off

V 6.14.1 allows turning off the POIs at least.

Edit->Preferences, Display tab, set Services to Off.

My apologies if this was mentioned already or something everyone is already familiar with. The last time I used MapSource was in 2005...

Mike

I installed twice, too.

I have no explanation for this...

After the first install, the computer could not find MapSource. And neither could I. I installed it again, and it worked fine after that.

Install V6.13.7 from scratch

I've gone back to Version 6.13.7 and I think I'll stick with what works for me at this time.

Below is what I got from Garmin Support concerning the lack of the Symbol size option:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. We released MapSource 6.14.1 on July 18th. Unfortunately, the option to change symbol size is still missing from this version, but it should correct your other
issues.

Below is my latest correspondence with Garmin support. Sounds like we expect the small icon option to added back! Garmin support is great!

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I'll be happy to help you with this. A request has been submitted to our software engineers to bring back the symbol size option in future releases. Hopefully we'll see this on the next version.

outlined roads

I like this version better since you can easily tell which side of the road something is on since the roads now are outlined.

Well....

I can't even find any place to change the icon size in the new version. There is nothing anywhere in "Preferences" that I can find to change it. I did find it in the older version, but I didn't like the small icons anyway, so I switched them back. Since that really doesn't matter to me, I'm staying with it. I much prefer the cleaner, more up to date look of the new graphics. So it takes 2 seconds to render a new view.... I've got a few seconds to spare anyway. wink

rapriebe,

Please read my posts above... Garmin support acknowledged the icon size (Symbol size) option was removed. They also requested to Garmin engineering to add it back with the next release.

I know what was said

...but I read above someplace that the feature was still listed, but didn't work... I couldn't even find the feature, functional or otherwise. Maybe I misread that, but I thought someone said it.

As I said, it really isn't of any concern to me anyway, I'm happy with the new version. mrgreen

.

Someone posted that and then came back and indicated that the computer on which he saw that feature was not, in fact, updated to this latest version.

Lipstick on a pig.

I had also commented previously about the icon size option, but with respect to the help file in my case. If one selects the Help from within v6.14.1 and search for 'Setting Display Preferences', and then select it from the list, 'Symbol Size' is listed as an option. Yet it does not exist in the program. 'Terrain Shading' is also listed in the help file but doesn't exist as well although that option is somewhat qulified to products that support it. These errors along with the now virtually unusable ability to rubber band edit a route make this version worse than the previous and don't elicit confidence that there aren't more thnigs broken with this version. Perhaps I am more sensitive to the inability to edit routes because I can download routes to my 760 and 750, and this version severely impacted one of the best features (to me), the ability to edit my routes. Alas, I am left only with hope that this will be fixed in the next version because I do think it looks better. But as it stands now, it's like putting lipstick on a pig - while it might look better, you still have a pig.

Well then send an email to

Well then send an email to support@garmin.com and politely state the short comings. You alway get more flies with honey then vinegar... so be nice.

I don't have a Nuvi unit that does routes and my Garmin GPS III that does routes does not work with MapSource, but does work with nRoute. So I did not even know about the routing issues with the latest MapSource.

Done.

Done. And I believe I was rather factual about the situation and left the emotion out of it. No response as of yet.
I really like the feature to edit routes 'by hand'. I am able to route around known problem areas and construction, and I find it enjoyable to create the 'perfect' route. I am an engineer (perhaps that is why I am frustrated by things that don't work right)and enjoy a good puzzle or problem to solve. I then feed the hand massaged route through the NoFlag routine I was alerted to from others on the forum (MM, if I remember correctly) and viola, the perfect route with no waypoints!
Sometimes when I think I have a sympathetic ear, I get a little carried away. No one likes to hear someone else whine. No offense to anyone, just frustrated.
Thanks.

I too upgraded and wish I had not... I decided to reinstall 6.13.7 and also keep the 6.14.1 and play with it. I just noticed that it does not select the maps around a route. I can make a route over several states. When I right click and choose "select maps around route", all it highlights is one or two states. I have contacted Garmin.

I Gave Up On 6.14.1

Maybe I have become too set in my ways but I am “not at all” pleased with the new MapSource version 6.14.1. The large icons were bothersome but I could probably live with that until they got it fixed. But the thing that caused me to uninstall it and role back to an earlier version was the “very sluggish map feature”. This was driving me nuts and I will not upgrade until they resolve this issue.

I have used MapSource regularly for many years (since the beginning of the StreetPilot III period) and this is the first time I have become really disappointed with an upgrade. I hope they improve it soon.

Registry entry still there

The registry entry for the Icon Size is still there after the upgrade to 6.14, but sadly, changing it did nothing. I changed a few other entries to be sure I was in the right spot and they wored fine, so I guess the new version simply didn't clear the registry entry of any unused variables when it installed over the old. Oh well, back to 6.13 for me.

New Mapsource version

MarinerJoe,

I use the Bluecharts on my 76CSx and when I updated to the latest version of Mapsource, the depths no longer showed up on the charts.

So it was pretty much useless as far as Bluecharts use with the latest Mapsource version.

I reverted to the older version and the water depths reappeared. So it's definitaly a problem with Mapsource.

If you are using it for Marine use... DON'T UPGRADE.

Tim

When I sent an email to Garmin concerning this issue, here is their response. Glad they are working on correcting the problems with their latest release.

Thanks for contacting Garmin Technical Support.

As you can see, the 6.14.1 represents a significant change over previous
versions. There are things that need to be worked out with it. Here is
a link to go back to version 6.13.7: http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/msource/MapSource_6137.e...

Problem Moving Waypoints

If you try and move a waypoint you have the same problems as with the rubberband feature. Think maybe Garmin should have posted this as a beta.

Ver 6.14.1 Anyone using

I'm using it and having better luck making routes than I had with a previous version. I'm using the route tool with the City Navigator Map. Can't get the rubber band thingy to work tho. Is there anyone still playing with the new version that can tell me how to keep my nuvi from announcing every via point on the route. I have a 750.

Use the "unflag" utility

Harpo66 wrote:

MapSource inserts a flag at every via point. Fortunately, there is a handy utility that removes all flags from your via point. You can download it at: http://www.fes-software.nl/zumo/unflag.zip

You basically save your MapSource as XML and then run the Unflag.exe utility and it saves a new XML route with all the flags removed.

Unflag Utility

Tried this a few months back with the old MapSource version. It worked great and the unflagged routes transferred perfectly to my 750. However, if one deviates from such a route while navigating, the Nuvi will recalculate the route as if the unflagged via points don't exist. This can drastically modify your route. Although a bit awkward, you can recover by reloading the original route since the recalculation only affects the current route and not the one that is saved. I believe that recalculation can be turned off on the Zumo but not on the Nuvi. I haven't tried the unflag utility with a file produced by the new MapSource version, but I don't expect it would produce a different result.

Thanks for your input

If I could just find a way to keep it from announcing all the via points as I pass them would make me happy. I have a 2 gig SD card filled to the top with mp3's that play all the time when my nuvi is on. I just get tired of the interruptions. I will play with the unflag utility and see what happens. I knew I would get help here.

Unflag has promise.

potential

I did a test run. Everything you said would happen happened. I strayed from the route. I had to reload the route to get it back. JohnC said to use KML files but the version of UNflag I downloaded does everything with the gpx files. So simple to use. I now have to figure away to get around the recalculating on a motorcycle. I never stay on the route.
