Bike Paths

Sorry if this has been covered already - I did search but didn't find the info I needed.

There are a number of official bike paths in my area that are not on the 2009 Garmin map. One, for instance, located near Emma Wood State Beach Park, Ventura CA, connects the Highway 1 road with a designated bike-only path between exits 72 and 71, parallel to the S. Pacific train tracks, between the tracks and the 101 Freeway. Since the map software doesn't know about this path, it wants to route cyclists onto the 101 Freeway (not allowed) between exits 71 and 72, or as a pedestrian, route many miles out of the way to get through there.

I know that I can provide map 'corrections' to Garmin or Navteq, but are official bike paths supposed to be in the map software or were they excluded for some reason?

Well

I am not sure, but I am pretty sure that the base City Navigator does not have bike paths. Someone with the othe map packages might chime in and say they are in the topo software possibly. There are also some other map packages that could have trails.

The other option is with a handheld gps you could map them yourself, but I am not sure how you make them routable.

I just checked the topo 2008

I don't see any bike paths, there seem to be hiking trails in other areas north of the 101, but nothing between the RR tracks and the 101...

Edit: This is from Garmin's decription of the Topo:

"Perfect for outdoor adventurers who are into hiking, hunting, camping, canoeing, snowmobiling and skiing. Detail includes terrain contours, elevation information, trails, rivers, lakes and points of interest. Some versions contain added detail such as summits or routable roads."

Nothing about cyclists....
