So What's the Location Limit?

I recently bought a Garmin 260W. The specs state that it has a limit of 500 Waypoints/favorites/locations. The 260W can only have 1 waypoint on an active route. It can't store route waypoints. And I've already loaded 2000 custom POIs onto it. It will display all of them as they move into proximity of the GPS. Of course, only 52 of the nearest show up on the Go To Extras file.

So what's the 500 location limit apply to? I've asked the experts at Garmin and their reply was nonsense: "Yes you are right." they told me.

Anyone here know the right answer? Anyone?

Just curious.

500 favorites is correct. You are loading POI's. They appear in two different catagories on your GPS. When you go to "where to" there will be a listing for Home, Recent Selections, Favorites, Custom Poi and Current Position.

But Exactly What's the "500" Apply To?

Yes, I'm aware of the Where to page. For the 260W, the Where to page contains the following selections: Address, Points of Interest, Recently Found, Favorites, Extras, Intersections, Cities, Browse Maps, and Coordinates.

The ones that the user supplies are: Favorites, and Extras. The Extras file contain the Custom POIs.

So are you saying that the "500 Waypoints/favorites/locations" applies only to Favorites? If so that'd be great, as I don't think I'd ever need that many.

.

Yes. The 500 Favorites limit only applies the items stored in your Favorites list.

Custom POIs are typically only limited by the amount of space available.

I have found that I get between 6,000 - 10,000 Custom POI locations per megabyte of space.

Thanks Much

Now I can rest easy knowing just what the limit applies to. Appreciate the fast responses!
