SD trouble Nüvi 760

I have recently bought a SD-card with additional maps for my Nüvi 760. The unit is reading the card without any problems and I can see the new maps on the screen. The unit can however not find any single address on the new card / maps when I try to get directions. When I try the same SD-card in my Nüvi 770 I don't have any problems at all - Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem? Thanks.

Are both maps active?

I don't know for sure if this will solve the problem, but try selecting tools, system, maps, map info, and then only select the map on the card....

Alternatively, you could make sure the card is selected if it isn't currently, then select it...

Edit: I just did a little research on my 760, to find an address on a different map than the one resident in my unit, I did have to de-select other maps and the resident map.... i.e. just select the map for the country I was looking for an address in...

Thank you for the reply. I

Thank you for the reply. I tried de-activating all other maps, including the resident map, but it did not help. The strange thing is however that I can use the POI's on the SD card, and the unit can make a route to any of them - It is only the address-search function that does not work...

Where do you btw select the card as you mention?
Thanks.

Where do you select the card..

I was referring to the map card, I more correctly should have said 'select the map on the SD card', which you would do in "map information"...

What happens when you search for an address?

I searched for a fictional address in Brisbane, Australia. When asked for a city, I entered “Brisbane” I selected Brisbane, Qld. I then entered 123 for an address, Main for a street, and selected one of the choices, and show on map, which it did….

Maybe the map doesn’t have that address, is it a new area….. What map are you searching?

I have de-selected all maps

I have de-selected all maps - except the map for my current location (Argentina). When I search for an address - starting by the city, the unit cannot even find the city (any city for that matter). If I move on to "Search All" it still cannot find any address.
But the map for Argentina does come up on the screen and I can make a route to any POI without problems - the only thing that does not work is when I try to search for a specific address.
As I mentioned there are no problems whatsoever when I insert the same SD-Card in my Nüvi 770, with exactly the same settings...
I have tried to reset the Nüvi 760 and ran all the possible tests under "diagnostics", but that didn't help. The only difference between the 760 and the 770 is that the 760 is still not registered with Garmin, but I assume that this cannot be the reason?

I don't think the problem is with not registering with Garmin

But it could be the card is tied to the 770 and the 760 is not allowing it to use it.... You might check with Garmin to see, but it was my understanding that their cards would work with any compatible unit...

I'll have to do a little more research.... I love a puzzle....

Thank you for your help!

I actually bought 2 identical 1GB SD-cards (not from Garmin) with maps of different countries in South America. Both cards work without any problems in my 770 - but not in the 760, so the cards cannot be tied to the unit.... Later today I will try to contact the Garmin importer here in Argentina, to see if they can help.

Por nada

I was wondering why I couldn't find the map listed at the Garmin site... grin
