I just tried to load some more POIs using Garmin's POI Loader 2.5.2 and it stopped working. I restarted and still the same. I even reinstalled the program and still, no luck.
Has anyone come across this? Any solutions?
Thanks,
Sam

I wish I had more to say...
I am using Vista and I get a pop up saying "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program." It worked just fine yesterday.
Thanks for looking and trying to help

I find that hard to believe...
a problem with Vista? I sure haven't heard very many good things about vista. I'm sticking with xp... And sorry I don't have any solution except to try Garmin tech support, they have proably had to deal with the problem....

Did you uninstall poi-loader before the reinstall?

You said you reinstalled the Garmin's POI Loader 2.5.2, did you un-install it first? worth the mention.

What version of Vista are you using? I have Vista Ultimate x64(64 bit) and had the same problem. I tried it on Vista x86 (32 bit) and it works.
Still not working...

Thanks again for the suggestions...but its still failing. I have followed all your suggestions and reinstalled the program in different places.
Is POI Loader the only POI Loader for the Garmin Nuvi? Is there a third party application?
Thanks,
Sam

Yes, I'm afraid that is the only way to get custom poi's on your garmin.
Can you take a picture of the error? You might have a missing/corrupted dll in your computer.

Thanks again for the advice. I did end up fixing the problem.
I am shocked the program failed - my problem was a bad GPX file. I deleted the file and voila - no more problems. So my new task is to find out why my MASSIVE .gpx file failed.
This file is a copy of my Outlook address book that I imported into GeePeeEx and exported as a .gpx. Maybe you might know of a way where I can use the Bluetooth on my phone and GPS to get the addresses on my phone and use them as desitnations on my Nuvi 760.
Again - what a great group. I just joined and love this place. Thanks for taking interest in my technical problem...I'll spare you from all my other problems

Good news,You figured it out. What I do is unload all of my POI files in my garmin and begin with one file and go from there.I usually solve the problem quickly

Sam,
Have you thought about taking just a few of the contacts in GeePeeExbly Editor and trying those first -- you could look at each one of them in detail to verify it is OK. If that file worked, then you could assume that the methodology is OK an something is probably wrong with some of the entries. If even a few contacts fail, I'll bet Phil can figure it out.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Sam,
If you send me a copy of the .gpx file, I'll figure out what's going on.

Thanks again for the suggestions and help. Also - I mentioned that GeePeeEx made me a file that did not work. Just wanted to make sure anyone who reads this post knows I think this is a great product with fabulous service that I would recommend to anyone and the problems were user error...not with the GeePeeEx program.
Take care!

POI'S
I have windows Vista and have absolutely no problems loading POI'S. Usually when something doesn't work right on a PC the easiest to blame is the operating system where in most cases it is the person operating the system..LOL I have had windows Vista for almost a year and think it's great...

Figuring out why a gpx file failed
>> my new task is to find out why my MASSIVE .gpx file failed<<
I had a similar problem when I tried to convert a csv file to a gpx file when using GPXtoPOI. The program's author helpfully suggested that one or more data elements might be off.
Indeed, that was the problem. I'd omitted a decimal point, and one of my latitude values was 38000000 instead of 38.000000. (I've set up validation criteria for both long and lat, to send up an error message if values are outside a certain range.)
You might check your coordinates for a similar problem.

GeePeeEx Editor checks that Longitudes and Latitudes are valid.

Hhhhmmmmmm...
I downloaded the poi loader 2.5.3 from the garmin website. Installed it. Clicked on the poi loader icon and immediately got the message: "poi loader program has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I never saw the program work for a single nanosecond. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
I uninstalled the poi loader program via the Programs and Features in the control panel and turned the computer off for 10 minutes. Turned off all my antivirus software and reinstalled the poi loader program with the same result of "Poi loader program has stopped working...".
I unstalled the poi loader program again. Removed everything Garmin from my computer (unlock wizard, Mapsource, CNNA7, USB Drivers, and Webupdater) Turned off my computer. Waited 10 minutes and started it back up. Did a complete anti virus check which came up clean. Defrag and error-check. Restarted. Turned off antivirus software.
Ran the poi loader install again and cancelled it during the install. Restarted the computer. Reinstalled the poi loader program with the same result of "Poi loader program has stopped working..."
I'm officially stumped as to why I can't get this program to work. Any suggestions?

found problem
I finally figured out why my poi loader wasn't working. I had an old version of mapsource that I had deleted instead of uninstalling so there were some files left. I uninstalled mapsource and reinstalled the latest version and now my poi loader works perfectly. Devil's in the details...
