POI Loader / Too many POIs at the same location

It appears that loading a large number of POIs that have exactly the same coordinates can cause problems for Garmin's POI Loader.

I ran into this issue today while attempting to load a CSV file using POI Loader v2.32. The data included 134 POI records with the same coordinates. When I attempted to load them, POI Loader suddenly closed during processing without displaying an error message. Through a process of elimination, I eventually traced the problem to having too many POI records with the same coordintes. After removing some of the POIs with duplicate locations, the remainder of the file processed just fine.

Thanks for this info. I'll

Thanks for this info. I'll remember this because right now I have 115K+ custom POI's. We need a dup-killer for CSV files.

Just curious but have you gone and intentionally tried to prove this by removing all previously created custom POI's and creating bogus custom POI's with all the same coordinates WITHOUT any additional information (eg address, phone number, etc)? Are all these duplicate coordinates in 1 file or multiple files?

This process of elimination will help verify your conclusion and if the same result is given then I'll try it myself.

POI Verifier II

RT's POI Verifier II will look for duplicate locations within a single csv file.

zipcode file

We ran into this problem at:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/18041
when working with the updated zipcode file.

From that thread:
"I experimented with the number of identical entries POI Loader will tolerate with my setup before it barfs. 127 identical entries work, 128 will not." That's with a nuvi 350.
