help with gpx and garmin nuvi 350

I want to use the nuvi 350 to display some bicyle routes. i downloaded the gpx file two different ways - directly to the unit and also to the media card. i can see the file on the card via windows explorer. but on the unit, all i can get is directions to the start of the bike ride, not the route itself. when i download the file back from the card into Bikely.com (the site with the bike maps), i get it. So it is on the card but i can;t figure out how to display it.

help pls!

Sorry

The 350 doesn't have the ability to display a "route", just individual POI's.

thanks - I was afraid of that!

Is there a way around this with the 350 that you are aware of? by using POI's or something?

thanks

One thing I experimented with, was drawing a transparent MAP on top of City Navigator.
See:
arrow http://geepeeex.googlepages.com/poorMansRoute.JPG

The RED line is a major road I have defined, that is being displayed on top of the existing roads. (I wanted to be able to follow a rat-run, through some back streets).

The data that defines the map, looks like this:

[IMG ID]
ID=500032
Name=My Route
Elevation=m
Datum=W84
Levels=5
POIIndex=Y
Transparent=Y
Level0=24
Level1=17
Level2=16
Level3=15
Level4=14
[END-IMG ID]

[RGN40]
Type=1
Label=Follow the line!
Levels=4
Data0=(53.544158,-2.097606),(53.544749,-2.097498),(53.545012,-2.097573),(53.545143,-2.097721),(53.545558,-2.098312),(53.546107,-2.097061),(53.546481,-2.095958),(53.546942,-2.094817),(53.547690,-2.092610),(53.548368,-2.093349),(53.548521,-2.093276),(53.552163,-2.087506),(53.551530,-2.086362)
[END]

Even without any explanation, you can spot the data that defines the road.

To this road, I added custom POIs at strategic points. Each had a bitmap comprised of an arrow, pointing in the correct direction and a custom audio alert, stating the direction to travel.
I was contemplating writing some software to automate this, but I reckon most people will have upgraded GPSrs, by the time I get round to it!

Alternatives are Poor

You can save every turn as a waypoint in a gpx file that you load into either Favorites or a Custom POI file, BUT, realistically, these are not terribly attractive alternatives for a cyclist. We both need one of the new Garmin Edge 705 units. grin
