Nuvi 760 keeps prompting me...

Nuvi 760 keeps prompting me to load custom POIs from SD card onto the internal memory. I think I've read somewhere that one can choose "do not ask anymore". For the life of me, I can't seem to locate that button. Can someone please help.

Look for the checkbox

When it asks you if you want to transfer, there should also be a checkbox which says "Don't ask me again," or some such wording.

It would make sense, but no,

It would make sense, but no, I only see 2 buttons: Yes and No. I guess I need to talk to Garmin in the morning.

.

Not all models have this functionality in the firmware. You might need to load them to the unit itself.

The initial prompt is about loading from the card "in general". You have to answer "Yes". Then it asks about each .gpi file on the card.

It's at that point, that you get the choice to "skip this file". (Or at least, you do on some units).

Phil,

Thanks. Finally, I understand why previous instructions from some of the most knowledgeable members on this board made no sense (I must say "Yes" ??? when asked if I want to transfer data from the SD card to the Nuvi, when I really don't). I now understand that some models require you to say "Yes" -- just to get to individual secondary screens for all gpi files which then offer the checkbox option to skip the transfer of the specific file in question, this time and in the future for that file. On my 660, it is just the opposite -- the initial screen offers a checkbox for "Don't ask me again," and I choose "No". This is offered for each new gpi file on the SD card.

In the future, when someone asks about this, I will tell them:
It differs by model -- If your unit offers no checkbox for "Don't ask me again" on the initial prompt asking whether you want to copy the new data to the Nuvi, you must choose "Yes" (as counter-intuitive as that seems), just to pull up the second prompt that allows you to check a box saying to skip that file for transfer and future prompting. You will be given that option for each new gpi file on the SD card.

If your unit offers the "Don't ask me again" checkbox on the first prompt, check the box and choose "No" to the question of copying the data. You will get this prompt for each new gpi file on the SD card.

I guess Garmin could have made it more confusing, but I'm not sure how.

Phil, you're absolutely

Phil, you're absolutely right! As B-biker said, Garmin is certainly doing a great job confusing everybody.

I love this site, there're so many knowledgeable folks that are willing to share that expertise. I call tech support at Garmin this morning, and the tech put me on hold for 10 min so that he can check with the senior tech what the ans is. He came back to tell me that the senior tech says that there is no such funtionality. "You just have to chose no each time." So there, people here know more that the techs. Thanks, Phil.

Dumped the prompt

Worked for me. Replied yes and then checked the "do not ask me again box on my nuvi 780". Thanks for the tip. Been trying to eliminate the nag screen for a long time but was afraid to hit the yes button thinking it would load my sd card onto the Nuvi which I did not want.

Of Course

Of course you would think that -- that is what it indicates it is going to do. Any logical person would think that. Glad it worked.

POI prompts

I love my Garmin but that has to be the most backwards bit of programming that one could think of. If I hadn't found that answer a year ago, I would probably still be clicking NO every time I booted.

Finally less buttons to push

I have been having the same problem. Thank you for the excellent information on how to get rid of that annoying question. On the Nuvi 200W you must do the yes thing and then the skip question comes up. Thanks again to all the EXPERTS on this site.
