3xx and 6xx Antennas positions

How do you put your antennas up? I used to always kept it straight up, until I read review from gpsmagazine that Garmin says that is should be parallel to the earth's surface.

On the Street Pilot 3

It didn't seem to make a difference, but when it was parallel it fit on my dash better, when I used the external mount it was usually perpendicular.

Parallel To The Ground

Page 3 of my Nuvi 660 manual says to operate the unit with the antenna "parallel to the ground." That's the way I've always operated it.

They only show the Windshield Mount, which is illegal in some states, California being one such state. I have never been stopped for having my unit attached to my windshield but if you were stopped for something else they might nail you for that also...

Online Manual

I just looked at the online manual for the 350 and it does not specifically say "parallel to the ground" although, I would think that it would have the same requirement.
