New Mac POI organizer program

For those of you who did not read my other posts, A good friend of mine has developed a new Mac POI Organizer program. The program will allow users to manage POI's with a iTunes-like interface, view a map of the POI, export directly to GPS through Garmin's POI Loader program, search for a particular POI, import addresses from Mac's Address Book and geocode the address and more.

The release of this program is now only days away. I will post an update when he releases the program.

Will the program actually create gpx and/or csv POI files? Or is it designed to provide a front-end to manage and load already existing POI files? Geocoding would seem to do most of the work for the creation.

Garmin's Bobcat works great on Mac

It's everything MapSource is...see discussions elsewhere here on it. smile

awesome!

cant wait - i tried making my addie book into its own csv file by exporting my contacts into an excel/numbers file and then using http://stevemorse.org/jcal/latlon.php to do a batch latitude/longitude search - many of the cooridnates were wrong and placing them in the excel/numbers fil was just WAY too time consuming - if this app works id happily pay for it so the developer can always make it better - thanks - g

I just picked up on your post and was wondering what status of the release is. I'm setting up a new Mac and I'm wondering what programs this new one will replace. Someday there might even be one program that does it all!!!

The program allows you to both import and manage existing poi files (csv, gpx may be implemented in future) and enter new addresses, geocode them, create new poi files and download them to the Garmin through POI Loader. The program can also manage POI's as collections, either manual or smart collections. Think iTunes for GPS Poi's. Hope this answers your question.

Release may be today or tomorrow. I just spoke my friend and he is going to finish the quick start guide (manual to follow). Once he gets that done, I'll post the info for downloading. Probably tonight or in the AM the link will be posted.

This program does not replace anything because as far as we know nothing exists for the Mac that has the functionality of this program. That is why he decided to write it. I have seen programs for Windows have similar features, but not Mac specific. I should also note that he is committed to this project and is already thinking about version 2.0.

Ya, except it is limited to Mac OS 10.5, so I can't try it out as I run 10.4 (Tiger).

Oh well...
