Are brdges a problem

Hi
On a trip yesterday, lost satellite reception on the George Washington Bridge, got it back a minute or two later. Was this a coincidence, or are big suspension bridges associated with lost reception more generally (lots of steel, bouncing every which way, etc.)

TIA

What type?

What model GPS do you use? Does it have a high-sensitivity receiver?

GW Bridge

I lose reception when traveling the lower level of the bridge ... but this is to be expected, tons of steel all around you, and you travel underneath a couple of apartment buildings.

I do not recall losing reception when on the upper level.

Upper Level

Sorry, did not note I was on upper level (perhaps because I never take lower level). Would have not been surprised to lose on lower level, since one is close to indoors with roadway above; tis the upper level that surprised me.

Thanks

It could be as simple as the angle you have to the satellites. Steel will interfere if it's in your direct line of sight.

antenna

how do you position your antenna? it should be parrallel to the road ... there was a long thread awhile back on this site about this, but the long and short is that you will get better reception when the antenna is postioned properly ... especially in compromised situations.

your reception may also have been affected by things like weather, large trucks around you, where (lane) on the bridge you were, etc. ... many other variables added to the steel of the bridge may explain your losing reception on the upper level and my not.
