Speed Limit on Icon on screen

Ive seen posts of the speed limit showing on traveled
road with 2009 map update.Does this show up on all models? And how would it be installed?
Menu or an orther way?

You know I've been wondering

You know I've been wondering the same thing. I updated my maps on my Nuvi 350 to 2009 and I haven't seen that on the screen yet. I even zoomed in and still nothing. Has anyone noticed posted speed on there maps?

Speed Limit

The speed limits were there on my Nuvi 760 even with the previous map. I think it is related to the unit in addition to the map version.

I think it's only available

I think it's only available on the 7xx series and probably the 8xx series as well.

Just curious

Why would you need it to clutter up the screen? You can find speed limit signs along the road. Just curious.

Or you can

If you have a poi that lists a speed trap for a local highway, not the speed caera or redlight cam but a custom made for your neaest highway, you can use a speed limit sign as the icon. When a known speed trap comes up, the speed limit sign shows up. But that's my workaround.

Only on Interstates

Speed sign shows up on my Nuvi 780 only when I'm traveling on an Interstate. I have never seen it when on surface roads.

Only on 2009 maps

Do you have the 2009 maps? They are supposed to have speed limts for more than just the Interstates. I'll be installing it tomorrow, so I'll find out for sure.

Enhanced Coverage

The only sign of "Enhanced Coverage" I have found in the 2009 Update is the speed limit icon appearing on surface streets. As to what good it is, I bet when you spot that cop coming down the offramp or on that side street, first you think "How fast am I going?" followed by "What's the speed limit?" or vica versa

shows up more since update

Since I updated to the 2009 maps, the speed limit shows up on more roads in my area. I actually like this feature on my nuvi 750 as it is good to have that reminder on the screen. Remember, however, that the actual sign alongside the highway governs !

Please don't ask me how I know about this !

650 Nuvi

Nope

I have the 650 also and it does not have it. I sure wish it did. I just upgraded to this unit and I thought it would have them. I will have to wait until my next upgrade.

Nice Feature

My update went fine and the speed limits do show up on many of the surface streets. It's also very accurate. I noticed it changed right as I passed the posted sign. I think it's kind of cool myself.

I do wish that the current speed would be displayed at all times on the unit instead of the estimated arrival time when following a route.

I find it helpful as I have had occasion to get on a highway and not see a sign for quite a while, certainly long enough to get pulled over if I were unlucky.

The 2009 update added a lot of local streets and roads in my area.

Speed Limit on Icon on screen

In reply to Just Curious

"Why would you need it to clutter up the screen? "

I find it invaluable to keep my speed at the point that they will let you slide.... Many times I do not see a sign or have not seen one in awhile. Plus my wife is constantly asking me what the speed limit is...now I can tell her at a glance.

Today I noticed the speed change literally at a posted sign...real cool.

I just got a 200w and

I just got a 200w and updated it to the new 2009 map and it doesn't show the speed limits. Must be for the higher models.

No speed limit icons

I've had my 750 for about a week and haven't seen the speed limits show up on the map yet. Is there a setting to turn them on?

There is no setting to turn them on or off, but they do not show for every road. They were first only displayed for interstate highways and some major highways. With the 2009 map update, they are displayed for many more roads to include local streets. Again, not all streets and roads, but many more than show with the 2008 maps.

Run Webupdate and load the latest firmware. You should then have the icon.

Speed Limit Icon Wonderful

I rarely just happen to be at a speed limit sign at the exact moment I want to know the speed limit. It's nice having it right there on the screen of my Nuvi 750 when I want it. I too, have watched it change many times as I'm passing the sign when going from one speed limit to another. It's kind of become a game with me now to see how close it really is when it changes.

I Can Think Of One Place It Would Come In Handy ...

The NJ Garden State Parkway recently dropped the speed limit from 65 to 55 from mileposts 80-100. The speed limit has been 65mph for years, and with the drop I have found myself pulling onto the highway in formerly 65mph zone and going well over the new posted limit. The warnings for the drop in speed are inadequate. I am sure the timing of the speed drop has NOTHING to do with the influx of summer tourists on the road, very probably missing the new speed limit.

Speed Limits

The speed limit feature has been available at least since software version 2.30.
In the 2008 maps, the only place I saw it was on expressways. Downloading my free 2009 update now. Supposedly there are now speed limit indications for other major roads in the 2009 version. We will see...

I really like this new feature!

After using the new maps for about a week now, I really like this new feature. I'm much more conscious of my speed and I believe that it has actually caused me to drive at a safer speed now. Seeing the posted speed limit right above my actual speed is just too convenient.

Now if we can just convince Garmin to display the current speed at all times instead of the estimated arrival time when following a route! smile
