New File for the POI Factory

question idea I would like to purpose a new file to be added to the site. After reading the same questions over and over about how to do this and that, and having a few people on this site that have the experience on a lot of the subject that are in the FAQ’s I think it would be nice to have a section that when someone writes instructions on how to download files, Make custom Poi’s, load Icons, and almost anything else they could be posted there rather than have every one list a number of post to read before they found an answer. If we had a file called POI Instructions or something to that effect it would help new people and even us old ones that may have forgotten how to do something from searching the threads and reading a number of post to try to find the answer.

.

Are you saying that the FAQ's are not complete enough?

New Filed

Not that they are not complete but sometimes they do not go into detail. If the instruction that RT, MM ,Hornaby and others have written step by step were in a separate file then people could go straight there and download it. I don't think it needs to be for every little thing that comes up but the same question is always coming up because people don't always understand what someone tells them in a post, but can understand what to do if they see it step by step.

General Maintainers have the

General Maintainers have the ability to make FAQ pages, if you have something that you feel is not covered please submit an FAQ and I will get it linked to the appropriate areas of the site.

FAQ's

Do you have a way of finding out who has written step by step instructions or could I make a FAQ maybe title Instruction and ask for input from eveyone that then could be linked to that question?

.

Can't the Search function be used for that?

we already beat that horse

John, it is a good idea but doubt that it will accomplish anymore that the FAQ already has.

You can write instructions until your hands turn blue, but that doesn't guarantee that newbies and some of the old-timers will not be asking the same questions over and over.

Remember the old saying "You can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink"

New File

Flaco thanks and I agree. I have been doing a search in the FAQ files and it is hard to find things but no fault of the site they have tried to cover everything, so may let it rest while I do more research. and see what I can come up with.

BMP Icons

I think it would be nice if we could make a page so we could view "all" the bmp icons (pictures) on a single page so one could choose that way as well. Currently we have to click on each descriptive text to see the bmp icon. Maybe we could have a seperate page that works backwards? i.e. Like if you have a page of pictures, when you see an image you want right click on it and have it come up as "save as" with what the file name is and be able to change it at that point? There are a bunch of pictures that someone might want to classify as a different category.

For instance, There are 2 red lobster icons. Obviously one of them is the sign and would be associated with the restaurant but there is also just a lobster that could be associated with a lobster hatchery, aquarium, other lobster restaurant, etc....

I will check
