SD CARD

OK
What does the SD Card do ??
Many of us have posted that we can NOT get the GPS units to reconise anything on the SD Cards.
All of our POI's have to go to the units memory.

HAS ANYONE FIGURED OUT HOW TO LOAD AND USE THE SD CARD ????

SD Card

Well, i am having the same problem with my C330. In fact, I just brought it back to the store this morning and exchanged it thinking the slot was broken, but this one is the same way. I love the unit, but there are no clear instructions. I have to be missing something.

ME TOO

I also have the C330.
My mom also has the C330, and I tried out her SD Card slot.
Same thing on both.
I wish their was a Tech Head on here, who can edjamacate me on this thing.
I love almost everything else with my C330.
Except the SD Card, and the fact that I can NOT see Lat/Long on the thing.
But I no longer get frustrated when driving in the cities....

SD CARD

The SD Card is for downloading Maps when they are updated.
Maps cannot be downloaded directly to the c330.

SD Card c320

It is obvious, at least with the c320 that it does not show up in XP as a drive, similar to what a digital camera would do. Consequently, you can't delete any data or add data using Windows. You can of course, reload any maps that you want, providing there is space left on the card. However, when the card is full, it will tell you there is not sufficient space to do this. This is either a terrible design flaw or we are missing something here. Any help out there would be appreciated. It is the same problem with loading POI's, in that they seem to load directly to the memory of the c320, not to the card, so you are really limited in that the c320 does not have much memory built into it, compared to the c330.

How are you guys seeing the SD Card?

How are you guys seeing the SD Card?

My c330 did not come with one, so I used one from my Toshiba PDA. I can't figure out how to see it or use it???

The POI uploader does not "See it"

Sorry if this has been asked before...

SD Card

The SD Card shows up in XP as a removable flash card, this is the card that you want to use, but first you must have the webupdater installed on the card before you can down load anything. You should check your computer to see if the Garmin drive and the SD card are showing in your computer. The webupdated can be downloaded and installed free from the Garmin website. I have the Garmin C530 and don't have any problems updating my Garmin or adding new POI.

When I put the sd card into

When I put the sd card into the Garmin 7200 It says reading sd card an thats it. I tried to install webupdater onto the card but I get the message that it is already intalled into the system which it is. It says that if I want to intall webupdater onto the sd card that first I have to remove the program from the system via control panal/ add an remove software which I see no purpose in doing because It might not let me reinstall back into the system.

Model differences

We should keep in mind that there are differences among the models in Garmin's product line. The c300 series is one of the first to support custom POIs. The c500 series is a much newer design.

Here are some groupings that show which models are most closely related. The list is ordered roughly according to age:

  • SP c320/c330/c340
  • SP i2/i3/i5
  • SP 7200/7500
  • nuvi 350/360
  • SP c530/c550

OK, Maybe I'm still missing something...

Installed the "webupdater" which seems to be a software updater.

I still do not "SEE" the sd card or the GPS in WindowsXP.

Any other ideas????

web updater / POI loader

I think we may need to back up a couple steps and make sure we're focusing on what you're trying to accomplish.

If I'm not mistaken, web updater is used to upgrade the software in the GPS (aka "firmware"). I don't think it has anything to do with loading POIs or accessing the SD card.

POI loader is another piece of software from Garmin that's used to send custom POI data to your GPS. If your computer has a card reader, it can also send data to a memory card.

For the c320/c330/c340 series, it appears that the only way custom POI files will work is if you connect the GPS to your computer using a USB cable and transfer the POIs directly to the GPS. These models do not seem to be able to read custom POIs from a SD card.

The SD card in c320/c330/c340 can be used for maps. Garmin sells detail maps for additional areas like Mexico on SD cards that will work with these models.

Newer models like c530/c550 can use custom POIs stored in the GPS and/or on the SD card.

Also, I think some newer models will show up as a removable storage device when you connect them to your computer (but I don't know for sure which of Garmin's models do this).

Garmin StreetPilot C340, SD Card

I just purchased a Garmin StreetPilot C340 last week. I must say it is a great unit and I don’t know how I lived without one for so long.
SD card:
So basically there is no point of buying a blank SD card, only preloaded SD cards from Garmin for additional maps?
How many custom POI can the unit hold before it runs out of memory?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I can't remember, but not a

I can't remember, but not a lot. However, most POIs are very small, so you can fit right much in a little space.

Recently bought 2 C320s and talked to Garmin about the SD card

The SD card is used to store maps. POIs are stored in the 320's memory, not on the SD card. This explains why you can have a gig of unused space on an SD card and not be able to load a 100 meg POI list.

100MB POI???? The largest

100MB POI???? The largest one I have is just over 1MB and that has every school east of the MS River. What POI do you have that is 100MB?

I should have read every post on this subject. The Kingston 1 GB SD card I ordered came in today. I was all excited thinking I could load POI's on it so I wouldn't use up all the memory in my C340, but guess that ain't happening.

I got a good deal on the SD card, but have no use for it now. Anyone need one? sad

You can always use it in a camera for extra storage, Cheryl.

CD Card

Don wrote...I have a Garmin i3 it the best thing sence slice bread..
when i first got the Garmin i3 GPS it had only 128 mem card in it plus it came with two CD Map, Drivers, etc I could only get one third of the maps in it
so i changed the SD Card and i am useing a 2GB and it works great..i also updated the Garmin i3 GPS from v2.70 to v330
i now have all the map of NA plus 88 per sent of the POI files in my Garmin i3 GPS it like having a telephone book and GPS all in one...
I was thinking of buying another Garmin more up to date but not now this one is great..Blessings Don.

Nuvi 350

With my Nuvi 350 I have not as yet required the SD card. The 350 has 700 mb of free space when purchased. I note that one of the other Nuvi users has put the MP3 and JPG files on there... I am not quite at the point where I need the extra space.

This is just a bit aside from this but when I listen to MP3s on the Nuvi 350, it will pause the music tgo make street turn announcements (Emily is so polite).

Try NewEgg

CherylMASS,

Try NewEgg.com. I've been buying from them for almost 7 years and it's the first place I go when I'm looking for any electronic equipment. They're known for their great customer service and been rated top in their category since they opened their site. Ask around and I'm sure many people know/purchased from them. Also, they're great with returns. Just go to their web site to generate an RMA, no questions asked.

Anyway, They have several Kingston 2GB SD cards available (all retail packaging). One card with 5 "eggs" out of 5 rating (112 reviewers) is priced at their normal $15.99. The standard 3-day UPS shipping is $4.99. No tax outside CA so you won't have to pay either.

I just got my 1GB Kingston SD card with a travel USB reader for $19 total. Ordered it on Tuesday and got it today. I was actually looking for a reader when I came across this deal. Now my 660 has 1GB instead of 512MB...not sure how I'm going to fill this puppy up since I'm not planning to use my 660 as MP3 player and the photos from my Nikon is too big (10.2mp) and takes too long for 660 to load.

I suggest you give it try at NewEgg.

P.S. I know the Buy.com is lower after the rebate, but I hate rebates. One, I have to submit (paper or online) and then you have to wait and sometimes they reject for no reason.

question

The exteral SD and built-in SD are just like hard disks. The POIs in SD have to be loaded into the internal memory to work. I would guess the amount of POI you can load is limited by the unit's internal memory, rather than the sd size. Am I right? I do understand that we can use photos and mp3 as much as the sd can support.
