Nuvi 7xx Routes?

Thinking of upgrading to a Nuvi 750 or 780 for the Routes feature. (Planning a longish driving / sightseeing trip this summer.)
I have read a few reviews, but none of them answer my specific questions about the Routes function. I am especially interested in using MapSource for laying out the route(s) and downloading to the Nuvi.
MapSource lets me manually specify route avoidances and/or route preferences by dragging the plotted route to a different road as well as designating certain roads or areas as avoidances.
Will these preferences be preserved when the route is downloaded to the Nuvi or will the Nuvi handle the downloaded route as a series of waypoints?
I guess my question could be simplified by asking if the Nuvi will route me EXACTLY as shown on the MapSource screen after I have added a number of customizations to the route in MapSource?
.
One of my routes with multiple via points does not seem to work as I would like it to. While following it, the magenta line is just connect the dots straight line, not following the roads. Also, in the lower right hand corner an arrow shows up, I guess directing me to the next via point. I have tried remaking this route a couple of times. How is the 760 supposed to function while following routes - all of my routes have been made on the GPS unit, I am using multiple via points to control the roads used - side roads with out traffic lights.
Be sure your Navigation settings are not set to Off-Road. And be sure that your route doesn't contain any viapoints that aren't on roads.
I do not have it set to
I do not have it set to pedestrian mode, and all of my via points are shown as intersections of 2 streets
Different things...
I do not have it set to pedestrian mode
That's a different setting to the Routing Preferences. I don't have the 7xx to hand, but somewhere in "Settings | Navigation", it says "Fastest, Shortest, or Off-Road".

Nuvi 750 and mapsource
I just tried to create a route in MapSource and transfer it to my Nuvi 750 and it won't go into the Nuvi. I can transfer from Nuvi 750 to mapsource but not from the PC to the Nuvi. Mapsource does say transfer complete but nothing shows up on the Nuvi. I suspect that the Nuvi needs the waypoints related to the route and those would show up in your custom POIs or your favorites. That would be a real mess to deal with on the nuvi. I actually find using the routes directly on the nuvi easier then creating a route in mapsource and they don't show up in your custom pois or favorites.
I have read..
Go to tools,my data, import route from file, and I believe you will find the routes listed there...

Routing nuvi 750
Yes there is an import data function under tools that will copy the route as it is in Mapsource to the nuvi 750. Kind of an extra step in the whole load process but you can store them on an SD card and keep them there and then import routes from there. they will store directly on the nuvi with a usb cord but you still have to import them after you transfer them

When you’re done transferring Routes from Mapsource; turn on your Nuvi, select Tools, select My Data, select Import Route from File, select file you transferred from Mapsource and select Import. Ta da! Lol
Garmin could have made it much easier but they decide to make you work for it.
