Garmin Support ::sigh::

I think either Garmin have finally "lost it", or they've embarked on a personal vendetta against me!

I recently sent them 3 bug reports for the Nüvi 760 - and I know they've been received, because they showed up, fleetingly, in "My Support" @ the Garmin website. (Obviously, I can't expect them to be there every time I look wink )

However, today, I got individual responses to two of them ...
...in French!. confused

It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

wouldn't it be nice if we

wouldn't it be nice if we had more important things to worry about?
as in children in africa going hungry, being sold to slavery, mining diamonds as slaves, ecomony of the states going south, the war in the middle east, terrorism, poor conditions in third world countries, polygamists, pedafiles living next door to you that you are unaware of, etc.

wouldn't it be nice if there were something on earth more important than gps units?

Isaacjd yes, it's called

Isaacjd

yes, it's called www.some_website_other_than_poi_factory.com

otherwise, I think people come here to talk about gps and everything that revolves around them wink

Something about this thread makes me think of the "killer joke". Monty Python fans will know exactly what I'm refering to.

See, Phil? I told you before that you needed to move to another country.

This is just Garmin's way of letting you know where to move!

Sorry you are having a frustrating time.

I just called Garmin and

A Suggestion -- Not a Solution

Motorcycle Mama,

It's unfortunate that Garmin's customer service has not kept pace with its growth.

I know it doesn't help much, but there's a great web site called babelfish.yahoo.com that performs free language translation of text.

Jen

I also called and...

I told Garmin I wasn't happy with my TomTom One, they said to send it to them and they will send me a free Garmin unit of 'similar value'! smile

Wow....Garmin support really does rock! wink

Well, I've only contacted Garmin support a couple of times so I can't comment a lot from personal experience, but I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you.

For what it's worth, here are some of my thoughts on the subject of customer and tech support. And as a disclaimer, this is not at all directly related to Phil's issues which I believe are quite legitimate.

People complain that Garmin (or any company for that matter) won't include this or that feature on a particular unit. But the problem is that if they include certain features, they must be able to provide support for them. And they simply aren't equipped to do that (right or wrong). So they must limit which features they include so that they can provide support for the ones that are.

Take for example MapSource. Garmin doesn't include MapSource with many models because many models don't support features that MapSource has (routes, tracks). But many people have gotten Garmin to send the program to them.

To me (and I could be complete off base), Garmin not including the program is an attempt to minimize support calls that will result from people not sufficiently understanding how the software does and doesn't work with their units. I think that this is a legitimate move because countless problems are caused for example by people sending maps from MapSource to units that have the maps preloaded. Or people attempting to send routes to units that clearly don't support stored routes.

Just my two cents. And certainly not definitive by any stretch.

Comment

Well put. i think you hit it nail on the head. again well put

It says call them on la hotline. (The French hate it when their language is debased with American idioms). At least Garmin is fluent in different languages. Maybe they're just showing off smile.

What bugs did you find on the 760?

I notice when you send an email to Garmin using their form, you don't get a confirmation that it has been sent. So I send it twice smile.

Last time I used the form, nothing seemed to happen, so I emailed Techsupp@garmin.com. This time, I didn't bother with the form at all, but someone has either tied my email address or unit serial no. to me and updated the "My Support" part of "My Garmin". I was quite impressed, until I found out that it still explodes in a shower of error messages, if you actually try and look at any of them sad

re the bugs:

  1. Brightness setting for the cradle overriding day/night stored setting in the unit. No-one else but me seems to care about this smile
  2. I sent them the tracklog that showed my 30 deg. dive to earth @ 300 mph. In the horizontal plane, it showed me driving through a large warehouse, crossing a railway line twice, before coming to rest in a field. Complete gibberish, recorded to 7 places of decimals!
I suggested this might also be related to the silly average speed readings that keep showing up.

  3. Unit keeps crashing when vehicle ignition switched off, instead of saying "Do you want to continue on battery power?"

I forgot to tell them about the crashes I occasionally get, while editing a route...
