New data on the SD card, load it to memory?

Hi there,

I have been loading poi's on the SD card for a while and when I do that the garmin display a message everytime I boot it. The message basically asks me if i want to load the new data into the unit's internal memory. I simply hit cancel, everytime.

Well what do you know, my kids were playing with the garmin and they clicked yes, then i picked it up from them and i checked the box that said do not remind me again and I clicked no.

well, it seems that when I boot now it doesn't ask me again so I am not sure if it actually loaded the data into the internal memory or still access the sd card.

also, what if I want the unit to remind me everytime I boot, how to i un-check that checkbox?

.

If they hit "Yes", then the data was copied to the internal memory. If you don't want the data there, you can delete the POI.GPI file from the nuvi and reload the data. Or you can copy the file to the SD card.

If you want to get rid of the prompt, first select "Yes", then select "Skip this file" (or something like that) and you won't be prompted again.

that's what happened, I

that's what happened, I first selected Yes then 'skip this file' so now i am not asked again but what if I do want to be asked again? Is this something I can rever back to with a hack or a setting or do I have to delete the poi.gpi

if I delete that file, won't I lose my favorites?

This Keeps Coming Up

Wording to prevent the transfer of POI's from your SD card to the unit differs by model -- If your unit offers no checkbox for "Don't ask me again" on the initial prompt asking whether you want to copy the new data to the Nuvi, you must choose "Yes" (as counter-intuitive as that seems), just to pull up the second prompt that allows you to check a box saying to skip that file for transfer and future prompting. You will be given that option for each new gpi file on the SD card.

If your unit offers the "Don't ask me again" checkbox (and my 660 DOES) on the first prompt, check the box and choose "No" to the question of copying the data. You will get this prompt for each new gpi file on the SD card, but there would usually be only one.

I guess Garmin could have made it more confusing, but I'm not sure how.

No Problem

Your favorites are not in that file. If you ever want to move the file to your Nuvi, just plug it in and cut from the card and paste to the Nuvi, putting it into the Garmin/POI folder.

thank you guys! you know

thank you guys! you know that many of these questions would not be asked over and over again if garmin has a decent detailed documenations or at least something on their website.

For example, i have been searching for a technical data from garmin to tell me what type of mp3 files the unit supports and what are the dimensions of the image/thumbnail if i want to show that in the mp3 player.

these kind of questions that sometimes I hope were there somewhere but that;s why we all love this great website, it's so great that i ask a question and within minutes someone answers it,

thanks again

I agree but disagree

I agree 100% about needing more detailed documentation.

Unfortunately, there are many people who don't read the manuals or bother to lookup the information that is there.
Those questions are still asked over and over again. One off the top of my head is... "I've loaded a custom poi file that I downloaded from here...where did it go?"
