Chatty Charley thread for the week of April 21st 2008

Well it looks like spring is finaly here now we can get out and trael and try all the good poi's we have downloaded for this great site.

According to my profile, it’s been one year, yesterday, since I joined POI Factory. I would like the thank MaryAnn, Jonathan and all members for a terrific experience. As I said before, this is the friendliest site, bar none.

Happy Anniversary sweetie, it has been a pleasure to have you as part of our family over the last year;)

My daughter gave birth to twins this morning! 2nd Grandson and first Granddaughter!!

Wow.... You must really hate that woman to have to wait to see your grandaughter until she leaves! Grandkids are great. I have 6, and they are all very special! Hard to see it, but the one in the picture was out stomping on paintballs, and her face is covered with red paint!

Nah, I don't hate her, but it causes too much friction when we are both there at the same time.

My kids live in/around Des Moines, IA and I'm in Texas. Their Mother lives in Georgia and thinks the whole world should revolve around her when she visits. She will leave in a week or so and then I'll have time for a nice visit. A plus is that my oldest son has had his deployment to Iraq delayed for about 6 weeks, so I'll be able to visit him as well when I go back.

I did it. I traded my GTO in for a new Corvette. Now I just need to get a GPS for it.

Congratulations on the new grandkids! I just flew in to Des Moines about 2 hours ago (and boy are my arms tired). I'm in the area (about 40 miles south) on business this week.

...is here...yaaaay. Make sure everyone keeps their GPS's safe/windows rolled up and units out of their vehicles!

With the price of gas what it is, it's good to have a GPS just to keep you from getting lost. It's getting to be even a short misstep can cost you dearly!

E-mails have been circulating about boycotting specific brands or not buying on a certain day of the week; to me those two options are ineffective since all you are doing is shifting your buying habit and not curtailing consumption.

Other than parking the car for a couple days a week I don't see what we can do.

One thing I noticed here in Tampa is the buses that use to travel with hardly any passengers are beginning to fill up.

Well, I've said it before, and I'll say it again; BUY A HYBRID! I doubled my gas mileage when I bought one. Believe me when I tell you that the Japanese have this technology figured out. If you drive in the city, buy a Toyota; if you travel on the road, buy a Honda. Detroit is passive about it, and until they start getting serious about downsizing their vehicles and building "true" hybrids, Americans are wasting their money buying their cars.

I have the same problems most days.

I just picked up a case of bottled drinking water
(16 oz size and not the fancy brands) at the supermarket for my S.O.

I calculated it out - cost is $4.00/gallon

I don't like the gas prices but now I don't feel as bad !

BIO FUEL. Brazil is almost entirely BIO FUEL, and they make it from sugar cane NOT corn.

If I knew I wouldn't have a heart-attack, I'd walk the 3 miles from my house to work every day. I know it's not a long commute, but still I'd save myself a tank of gas every week and a half... AND drop about 80 lbs that I really, really need to loose as well. Hmmmm, that might not be such a bad idea....

This is the best time of the year. The flowers are blooming, and the fish are biteing.

We have three and they are much easier than kids

I had to chase off a black snake from my front planter area today while mowing the lawn. He was heading towards the open garage door. Didn't need him getting in there.

Paying 3.46 a gallon for gas in Florida sure hope it is cheaper when we get back to VA.

I'm new to the board, just purchased a Garmin,my 1st GPS and was searching for POI info and ended up here.
I have used them in rental cars and always wanted one
and could not pass up the $399 price at Costco.

Anyone ever been for a helicopter ride?

I took one two years ago today. Wish I could remember it....

Reader's Digest condensed version: my ride was on board Mayo-1, from my local hospital to Rochester, MN - me in a coma and on life support. Gall-stone induced necrotic pancreatitis is not something everyone survives...

I'm glad you made it out of that coma. Hopefully, you are doing fine now.

I had a helicopter ride when I lived in Hawaii. I worked at a radio station, and I had to fly to the North Shore of Oahu with Alice Cooper for a golf/tennis tournament. That was quite a fun trip, and I remember every minute of it.

Have been up many times in the early 70's
The company I used to work for in MA would transport us to Logan Airport in Boston directly from our facility for us to catch a commercial flight. A local TV Celebrity owned the Helocopter service.
At that time it was only like $15/person - Unbelievable!

I couldn't agree more - grandkiddies are the greatest invention. Love them, play with them, spoil them, then send them back to Mom and Dad for the hard stuff like discipline.

We have seven, ranging from 4 yrs to 22 yrs old, and they are all great.

With their visitation over, the kids fly out this morning....

But they may see me a lot sooner than they realize. I just completed a paperwork for relocation.

I got gas 3 times yesterday and it was 3.49 in R'mond and 3.39 in VA beach.

I was really surprised at my mpg though, it was 35 mpg!!!! I was very happy!

Gas has hit 4/gallon here for the two higher grades. I paid $60 two days ago to fill up my tank.

Glad you are ok. You deserve a helicopter ride now that you can enjoy a bit more.

My wife and I took one from Vegas to the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago. They land in the canyon and give you a picnic lunch. Then my wife asked about mountain goats. The pilot explained that he helps with the annual counts of goats in the canyon, but you can only spot them from below, seeing their white colored bellies. He flew the next 10 minutes with the blades within inches of the canyon walls!!! I told her never ask about finding wildlife on a flight again -- scared the crap out of me!!!
