I would like to start a POI list for Buffalo Wings. I know that we all have heard of Hooters Wings, but their are many local places the make outstanding wings. Sandwich and pizza stores are a great locations for Wings. I belive that I can do this, but on a small scale to start. This will be my first try. I would like to start on the East Coast section of the U.S. Then expand it later. Any thoughts?
POI Files
gotta start with the origninal!
Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY is credited with originating the Buffalo wing ... guess you should start any wings list with this!
Anchor Bar
1047 Main Street
Buffalo, New York 14209
Another great wings joint, won many "best wings reviews" is :
Jeremiah's Tavern
1104 Monroe Ave
Rochester, NY 14620-1645

I love the idea of a Buffalo Wing POI. I just started my first POI file in here, "Mom & Pop Hamburger Joints" and it's not as bad as you would think. In a week I think I'm up around 37 locations. As long as people give you the Name, Address, Phone, Lon and Lat. you just copy and paste the info. I would open it up to all USA & Canada locations. I've been looking for a good wing place in the Phoenix area and haven't found it yet. As soon as I do I will be posting the info... Good Luck

I think we may have it already
Is this what you guys are chatting about?
Buffalo Wild Wings?

Buffalo Wings
I did find that site on the list. I opened it up and found it is a national chain. Many locations across the U.S. like Hooters.I got the idear from the Mom and Pop Hamburger site. Wings are becoming the offical snack food with Football and a HDTV.

Buffalo Wings
I think pcatch and I are on the same page about small NON chain places again. I usually stay away from the chains. There are a lot of Bars, Pubs, and as the show of the Food Network, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives that serve great Buffalo Wings. (And ofcourse Hamburgers for the Mom & Pop Burger Joints) Had to plug that. Maybe we can talk pcatch in doing his own or sister POI to the Wild Wing Chain.... Just a thought

djs ... I went to school at RIT and the wings at Jeremiah's were so much better than Anchor's.
I do miss Nick Tahoes Garbage Plate

Are you talking about:
Jeremiah's Tavern

This was the only one that I could find by doing a search on line. Paul

GO BILLS !!!
First, let's go Giants!!
I, too, attended RIT ... in fact, I was there when my Giants beat the Bills in the Superbowl!
I get to Rochester for work occasionally and always try to make a Nick's run! I've eaten way to many garbage plates throughtout the years!!
Yes, Jeremiah's wings are much better! But Anchor Bar is a legend for the simple fact of being the original.
Wing Bowl
Am I to assume that you did not see the last Superbowl. I belive the Giants won. Nick Tahoes Garbage Plate, is that the name of a Resturant? Is in Rochester NY? I think that I need a little more info. By the way did I mention that I live MA. I was a big Giants fan till 1960 when we got the Pats. We were out played. You guys deserved the win last year. So lets get back to Wings

I too will contribute to the "Wings" palces that I have been acquainted with over the years.
Wings
I have about 20 Wing sites that I have put on my notepad and they have all the correct information.
I have also check with GPS visualizer so the name ,address, phone# and the Lat and Lon numbers are check twice.
My question is what do I do next? Will Miss POI send me a form so that I can transfer my info? Is it a templet that I could use for other things?

New England Wings - Winooski VT
http://newenglandwings.com/
135 East Allen Street, Winooski, VT 05404-2218

Latitude 44.491986

Coordinates
44.491986, -73.181203
N44°29.51916, W073°10.8721
Now you'll want to create a comma separated file (that is, each of the data elements in the file is separated by a comma) that looks like this:
-52.75416, 47.56025, "NLC Avalon Mall","48 Kenmount Road, St. John’s, NL 709-724-1265"
The elements are:
- longitude
- latitude
- Name/description
- address
That's an entry for a Newfoundland Liquor Commission outlet =)

Wind list
I understand the line and coma placement, but I still don't know where they go. When I open some POI files I see them in a spreadsheet and some are in wavey lines down the file. Also The line under the Coodinates Is the same as the Lat. Lon. lines but is on one line. The next line N44°29.51916, W073°10.8721 is different. Why? Are they the same? Thanks for your help....

Wing joints in Buffalo
There are som many places in the Buffalo area that are better than the Anchor Bar. My favorites are Duff's in Amherst and Pizza Junction in North Tonawanda. Give me a couple days, and I'll get some WNY locations for you
Once you have all your
Once you have all your entries coded correctly with the commas and quotes in a file with a .CSV extension, you use POILoader to transfer it to your gpsr. But I'm not sure I understand your question, so I'm not sure I've answered it!
The difference between 44.491986, -73.181203 and N44°29.51916, W073°10.8721 is that (and excuse my inexact terminology) the first entries are relative to the 0,0 point, whereas the 2nd set of entries are the degree/minute/second notation of the exact same coordinates. So N44 degrees 30 minutes would translate to 44.5. West of the 0,0 point is negative to -180, and east of the 0,0 point is positive to +180. North of 0,0 is positive, south is negative.
For example...
To take the location that I supplied, the entry in the wings.csv file would be
135 East Allen Street, Winooski, VT 05404-2218
802-655-3663
-73.181203, 44.491986, "New England Wings", "135 East Allen Street, Winooski, VT 05404-2218
802-655-3663"
If you open up the .csv file with, say, Excel, it should put each of those entries into their own cells. If you use a spreadsheet, don't forget to save as a .csv file.
... and when you're finished....
You go to this page
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/add/poifile
to upload your POI file to the web site! =)

I did what you said, I created a Excel file. When I went to name it "Great Buffalo Wings" and pressed Save As after I typed in the name and changed to a .csv file, a warning box pop up. Does not support wookbooks etc..... OK or Cancel. I press ok. Then another warning box pop up....May not contain features that are compatable with CSV....OK or Cancel. I hit OK. I typed in 2 wing locations in A1 & A2 to see if this would work. I hit save and it told me that it already exists. Saved it anyway, went to POI Loader to load my Garmin it found the "Wing .csv file" it tried to load it and said No Data Found. I am stumped.

As you can see I am lost( see above posts). You are the Master, I am getting very upset with myself. Is there a pre-made form that I can buy or find and just enter the information.
I can set you up with a file in the site database where you manually enter each location if you would like. Let me know and I will make it happen.

If I can "nerd out" on you
If I can "nerd out" on you guys for a few minutes - the History of Buffalo Wings, is somewhat interesting and checkered. Often the Anchor Bar is credited for inventing the wing - and for all I know, they could have in the form we see it today (Served with celery and bleu cheese) - but wings were also a part of Buffalo "Soul Food" for a long time.
Here are a few quick links on history (the second have some information that may be useful as there are reviews of wing places from around the country that could be mined for potential locations - although the site looks a bit old. If I get some time, I can cull through the WNY area ones to see if they still exist - or what might need to be added.

Tomarosa Pizza & Pasta
Tomarosa Pizza & Pasta located in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. They have a unique take on Buffalo Wings that I have not had anywere else. They use the traditional chicken wing pieces and bread them and cook them. They then put it into a thick Buffalo sauce that sticks to the wings and your fingers. I know this is not the traditional method of making Buffalo Wings, but it is great.

Best wings I've had...
1st listing is in the "good wings, interesting history" category:
Chuck's Spring Street Cafe
16 Spring St
Princeton, NJ 08542
(609) 921-0027
This was a pretty popular wings place in Princeton right around the time that Lyle and Erik Menendez (both college students - one at Princeton) decided to murder their parents in 1989, play the role of grieving children and then live it up (for a short time) before the law caught up with them in 1993. They're both serving life sentences. But...the wings at Chuck's are pretty good! You can read up on Lyle and Erik here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyle_and_Erik_Menendez
The other place doesn't have the same kind of story - but the wings are the absolute best I have ever had anywhere -- simply amazing. Additionally, they serve 10 grades of "hot", with the hottest -- "Ludicrous" -- so intense that waitresses carry the wings on a plate that's resting within another larger plate, and some of them wear gloves to avoid getting rashes. One visit there we were sitting next to a table of teen girls one of whom was just receiving a plate of Ludicrous wings. I asked her about them - and she offered me one. I tried it, and was floored at the heat -- the spice was incredible, and my left eye started tearing up as well -- and didn't stop for close to an hour (just the one eye). Anyway - even if you don't get the hottest, these wings are amazing -- people come to this place from distant states just to get the wings. The place is open 24 hours a day, service is friendly -- food is great, and it's called:
Chicken or the Egg (affectionally referred to as "Chegg"). Their web page is:
