I accidentally deleted the gmapprom.img file from my nuvi 350! sad

I was trying to upload 2008 maps and to free up memory that was required (had only like 700mb left and needed like 950mb) I thought deleting the biggest file on the GPS would work. Well I had enough room now but the GPS doesn't work. Now it is nothing but an overpriced mp3 player! sad

I contacted Garmin through email and no word yet. What you guys recommend?

I have all the receipts and everything and I got it June 18, 2006. This isn't fair! sad

Stupidity

This is where Stupidity should be painful. People like mikecart1 would be doubled over in pain. It would be easy to notice these people and then stay away from them! razz

You have a very negative attitude for something you screwed up

Hopefully I will see again someday.

And I think it is Garmin's fault for leaving that option available. Now if I somehow found a way to link it up with a 3rd party connector and happened to see I could delete the file, then that is one thing. But the USB cable came with the product. Garmin didn't say anything about deleting stuff in the manual in the box or the e-book version online. And why they didn't give the full instructions in the box is beyond me. I paid $623 and at least I could of gotten a complete instruction manual maybe worth $10 at most. Anyways, enough worrying. I'm shipping this off tomorrow! Will keep ya'll updated. Maybe they will hook me up with the 350W. Now that would have me giving Garmin 5 stars! grin

I'm sorry if I seem unusually coarse, but you seem to want to blame Garmin for your going in and playing and deleting things. If you don't know what something is, DO NOT delete it. Talking about how Garmin doesn't want to help you is simply not true, they just need you to send it in so the mapping can be reinstalled.

The mapping is two fold. There is a "base" map, the outline of the US and the MAJOR interstates. On top of that map is the street map. Had you just deleted the street mapping, it would have been an easy fix either by reloading the DVD, or having Garmin "dial in" to your PC and put it on that way. When you deleted everything, you basically turned it into a very expensive portable drive.

I guess what puts me off is it was YOUR error that caused this, but you want to blame someone else. You are looking for someone else to cover your mistake, and don't want to take responsibility for your actions. I think Garmin should charge you for the repair, but I am sure they are doing it at no cost, which of course you won't tell anyone, because you are too busy looking for someone to blame for your mistake.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but I am tired of people trashing a company because they didn't have the sense God gave a piss ant. You screwed up, YOU deleted things you didn't know what they were, and now YOU are looking for someone to blame. Do this, look in the mirror, that is the person to blame.

After you realize what happened, that you made a mistake (and it was an accident), please write and let us know what happened. Did Garmin charge you? Did they send you a unit back in operating condition? Were they polite when you called blaming them for not forseeing your errors? It would be nice to see someone actually be honest and admit they made a mistake and Garmin pulled their tails out of the fire.

I'm now off my soap box.

Garmins Fault????

Read your manual under Managing Files...there is a section for deleting files that specifically states....DO NOT DELETE ANY FILES IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE....

BINGO.....

Haha I don't know. I assumed he would of told me on the phone if there was a charge. Either way, it is useless to me and I have already GPS installed on my phone. I plan on consolidating anyways. The GPS on my phone is better in someways because it gives me the number to the place I am going to and I can call that place LOL. If they give me that $175 BS, I will argue and then tell them to stick it up their @$$! It is useless to me anyways. Life is too short to be pissed.

You're right, life is too short. BUT...assuming someone DIDN'T tell you says a lot, I don't think you were paying attention. Also, paying to fix YOUR mistake is only fair. If you took the motor out of your car, would you expect the manufacturer to put a new one in? You think $75 is BS, but I think erasing your map and blaming Garmin for your error is BS.

It's a sad world when adults will not take responsibilty, and yes, I am being nasty and possibly rude, but it was YOUR mistake. Garmin did not tell you to erase anything. Did you read the manual, or was it too much trouble to go online to read it?

It is sad indeed to think you want someone else to pay for your mistakes. Great example.

He didn't say what he was doing

WOW, doing a Nuke plant, this can't get any better,LOL!!!

Hahah. Trust me I won't put any files that you can just have operators delete when they trying to jam to mp3 in the Main Control Center. I am beyond Garmin. I know about things like this. Just listen to this song to make you feel better:

"he's got the whole world.... in his hands" grin

I am presenting to China this Thursday. They gonna be impressed. grin

I noticed he didn't say what part of the plant he is building. I'm hoping that he is just putting up the fence or planting a tree. Otherwise we are in trouble!

I know, I'm being mean. I can't help it, it's my day to be pissy.
