Has anyone tried one fo those plugs, that you can plug in your car charger plug and then into an AC outlet?
How good are they? They seem very cheap on Amazon (around $5.00). Will it still take 5 hours to charge? Are there better ones to buy, if so where?
AC to DC power plug
I just ordered one today so I am not able to give a report. They are cheap enough. It's going to be scary plugging the GPS into a wall outlet using a cigarette lighter plug the first time. Everything is double fused so it shouldn't blow up .. I hope. I am getting it mainly so I can get the MSN Direct updates when the unit is in the house. The car plug is the antenna for MSN and it supposedly only updates when the cable is powered. The one I found at http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/tractodclipl.html looks like it should do what I want. It also has a USB outlet if you want to charge that way.

If you're talking about the $5 thing on Amazon, the reviews are less than promising ...
Anything that provides 12 volts DC, and then takes your car charger plug is going to take (at least) the same amount of time it would take in your car.
At work, I use a benchtop power supply with a lighter socket connected to it to charge and run small things.
I'd be very suspicious of anything that couldn't provide at least 1 amp at 12 volts DC -- and said so on the packaging. Amazon has one with this rating for $7 that looks a little more trustworthy, and one rated at 5 amps for $25.
Cheers--
