Avoid U-Turns being ignored

Has anyone else had this problem? I have u-turns set as an avoidance, but the other day I was in Las Vegas and it wanted me to go south on the Vegas Strip, then do a u-turn to come back north. Because of traffic, I knew a u-turn was not feasable at that time of day, so I drove over a block and went past the destination to come back in the correct direction.

I have had this happen before and was curious why Garmin sometimes ignores the avoidance settings.

I plan to live forever. So far, so good.

Happened to me too, few times

Yip, the same thing has happend to me, more than once. I have always had U-turns turned off in "avoidances", but it ignored the setting. I have the Streetpilot c340, so dont know if it is unique to that unit, other Garmins of not.

Maybe there needs to be another setting that says "Absolutely and positively no U-Turns".

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

It "Tries" To Avoid ...

I have a Nuvi 350. I does exhibit similar behavior.

On the way home last week, I needed to stop at Guitar Center in East Brunswick, NJ. It is on RT18 North, a divided highway (with a center divider/railing). I put GC as a waypoint, and when I reached GC, Nuvi told me to make a U-Turn! Coming out of the parking lot, it told be to make a left!

I have "Avoid U-Turn" selected.

Webster - AVOID: "refrain from doing something"

So it "tries" to not make a u-turn. I wish it I could tell it to refrain from sending me across a divided highway.

That reminds about the time when it told me about a shortcut down these railroad tracks ... wink

.

If you read the User Manuals, you will see that under Avoidances it reads in part "The nuvi uses these roads only if alternative routes take you too far out of your way or if no other road are available."

It's not an absolute, and it's not intended to be an absolute.

Yeap, I have notice that if there isn't any other route to be taken, that it will say take a U turn. But the tolls don't seem to do that. I tried to go from VA to Boston and it took me to Canada!

Yeah, for whatever reason, it seems to take the "avoid tolls" very seriously. : )

Can't really explain why that one is different.

My C330

does the same thing. Actually, it seems to do it quite a bit more lately.

Not doing anything worth a darn.

u-turns

In my town you can't avoid u-turns. It's so common here we call the "Michigan turns"

Yes the same thing has

Yes the same thing has happened to me. Makes you wonder why the avoid U-turns option is even given if the device is going to ignore it.

same problem

Same problem for the U-turn for my C550. It seems the "avoidence of the U-turn" is not as accurate as it should be.

Yeah, the michigan lefts are nice.. what's even funnier is when it tells you to turn right and then left in rapid fashion when the road just changes names...
