Bobcat route question...

Hi fellow Mac users,

Is there a way to "manually alter" the route Bobcat generates?

In my route, I have a choice of two highways to reach my destination and Bobcat is choosing the one I don't want to use. What I'd like to do is drag the route from one highway to the other highway. Is there a way to accomplish this feat?

It's also choosing the on-ramp entrance to the freeway, "before" the one I use on the route.

Thanks for your time.

Bobcat

What is Bobcat?

What is Bobcat

Bobcat is the Mac version of Mapsource. It is a code name as it is beta software.

However I don't know the answer to the orgiinal question about altering routes in it. I have played with Bobcat simply to add waypoints that I can download to my Nuvi 360. It works extremely well btw!

I had Mapsource on my PC and when I made the switch to Mac a few months ago was looking for a solution, not only did Garmin come up with Bobcat they also came up with a program that converts your street level maps in Mapsource so they can be read by Bobcat. That worked extremely well too!

Skid steer routing...

I'm glad you asked. I had first envisioned GPS routing for a skid steer tractor:

This is the Mac forum after all!

You do know this is the Mac forum you are reading this, right? So if you don't use a Mac you might want to set your preferences on this site to hide this forum from you for now on.

Re: Bobcat Route...(SOLVED)

Hi Fellow Mac users,

My original question was:
Is there a way to "manually alter" the route Bobcat generates?

The problem was solved when I zoomed-in enough on the map to "street-level" and then I used the route tool, like a surgeons knife, to create the exact route I wanted.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Using Garmin's Bobcat.app to create a route, turned out to be a non-issue, as my Nüvi 670 doesn't accept routes. However, if I had a GPS that did accept routes (as your Nüvi 5000 does) all I had to do was to "zoom-in" to street level to create a specific route, using the route tool, via "my" preferred streets and freeways.

In other words, I just hadn't zoomed-in enough on the map to see the actual streets.

HTH (hope that helps)

Altering a route on Bobcat

Have a dilemma.
When I create a route between two waypoints on Bobcat and alter the route by changing which streets it wants to take by using the selector tool, It seems to map out the new route with no problem within the Bobcat program.

When I send it to my 760, it shows up in my favorites and when I hit go, it takes the unaltered route and not the edited route I wanted to see. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have done nothing more than what I have described, so if anyone can pick up on any missed steps, would be great.

Hi ridgeliner,

Just a thought...

Do you have 2 routes (unaltered and edited) for the same destination, in your POI Folder? If so, try naming those 2 files with different names, so you'll know which one of the 2 routes you are choosing.

-or-

Only load the "edited" route onto your 760 and that should take care of your 760 using any other route, than the one you uploaded and are selecting.

Just my 2¢

Cant make it work.

I only have the edited route saved in bobcat and transferred that one to the gps. In the menu of my gps im finding it in favorites. shouldn't I be finding the route in "routes" on my gps?

The more I research, the

The more I research, the more I get the feeling it's not possible.

Hi ridgeliner,

I have a Nüvi 670 that doesn't allow routes, so I can't respond to the "routes" part of your question.

Are you able to "save a favorite" as a "route" on the 760 itself? Would having the name "route" in the file name, make any difference as to how the 760 uses that POI?

Maybe some Nüvi 760 owners, on the site, can chime in and shed some light on your question...

There's a lot of good information regarding routes on the Nüvi 7xx series.
