What the Reason for Using Micro-SD Instead of SD?

Does anyone know of an advantage to micro-SD over regular SD, other than size? Garmin is beginning to use micro-SD in its new GPS systems. I enjoy having different media on several cards. The micro-SD card in my cell phone is difficult to swap out. It's also easy to lose.

Let me know if you are aware of advantages to micro-SD.

thx,
Jen

SD Micro

I'll watch with interest for others' comments. My guess is that the smaller size is the only difference between standard SDs and the micro version.

Size matters?

I think you answered your own question..the only advantage is size as far as I am concerned....I have one for my cell...and you are right it's hard to get it out of the slots and handle and not lose!!

It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

Cost

The prime motivator for change is usually cost.

More room??

One possibility is that it gives Garmin more room internally to position hardware.

Probably. You'll notice that on the new widescreens Garmin still uses SD cards, but micro-SD's on small screens. Surprisingly, the weights of the 2x5 and the 2x5W models are all the same, 5.2 ounces.

I have enough problem handling the postage stamp size SD's.

Size Matters

While size matters, the new 800 series widescreen models use micro-SD also. I want to sell my old unit and buy one with voice input for safety reasons. Just wish that I could buy one without micro-SD.

It may room for the hardware

It may room for the hardware and make the unit smaller

Difference in Capacity?

I was looking for a micro SD for my wifes phone and could not find any above 2GB while reg. SD cards are available up to 32GB these days. I also think that many of the handheld outdoors models only take micro cards for the sake of compactness.

okay

I do not know about you small my be ok but for me size dose matter bigger is batter. I need more GB
