Custom POI on Trip and Waypoint Manager

I am planning a trip to the BWCA and I have found some custom poi's. Can I few these in the garmin software or can I only view them on the unit itself. I have tried a few different things and searching a few things but I cant figure it out. I would like to be able to plan my trip then just upload it on my unit later.

Please let me know if this makes any sense at all.

I have the City Navigator software and the Topo software.

Thanks a lot

Arkman,

Can you reword your question? I think you've left out a few words. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Ok, sorry for the confusion.

Ok, sorry for the confusion. I have several custom points of interest on my device. I can't seen them when I open the garmin trip and waypoint manager on my computer.

Is there anyway to see custom poi's on my trip and waypoint manager software, so that I can plan my trip on the computer. Then upload that route to the device later.

Sorry for the confusion, let me know if this makes any sense at all.

Probably

You can do what you describe on auto models which accept routes; I assume it is the same for handhelds. The HCx accepts routes, so I'm guessing the Cx does as well (it is not an easy find on Garmin's site -- guessing discontinued). If all my guesses and assumptions are correct, you would, as you say, build the route in Mapsource and transfer as a route to the GPS.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

.

You need to take the original Custom POI data files on your computer and be sure they are in GPX format (if they are CSV files, you must convert them to GPX), then open MapSource, and use the File, Open Menu to open them directly.

You cannot open the Custom POIs that are on your GPS unit in MapSource. You must use the original data files from which the Custom POIs came.

Custom

That part of the process I get. The part I'm having a problem with is for custom points of interest. I have downloaded some custom POI's and installed them into my hand held. They show up on there on the device it self. I want to have them show up on mapsource so I can plan my route on there.

I guess my question is. Is there a way to have custom POI's on a mapsource product, and if so, how do I do that.

Does that make sense? It might now.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Sorry I cant explain what I want very well

Josh

Thanks to Motorcycle Mama. I posted this comment while they were posting theirs. I think that have answered my question. Except how do I get them from CSV to GPX to get them into mapsource?

If you look on this FAQ page, you will find several links to helpful software.

POI Edit and GeePeeExx with both do it quite well.

There's also this software.
