audiobook site

I've just launched a line of oral history audiobooks excerpted from interviews with World War II veterans. You can find information and listen to excerpts by visiting www.audiomurphy.com or www.tankbooks.com. Lots of free files at audiomurphy that you can download in MP3 or listen to in real audio. My dad was a tanker in World War II, and I've been recording the accounts of veterans since attending a reunion of his outfit two decades ago. So far there are six audiobooks available, and reaction to them has been excellent, especially among people who listen to them while driving. It's like having a veteran in the car or truck with you telling you stories. Makes the miles fly by.

If you are familiar with the Netflix business model, this is the audio alternative: http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/Learn-More-Rent/dp/45/

This company has all the latest novels and because you won't be listening to the DVD's in real time, you can go with the cheapest plan and still get lots of books inexpensively. I will admit that the transfer from multiple DVDs to computer to SD card is a pain, but the cost of directly downloading the audio files (from somebody like Audible) costs 5-10 times as much as their plans.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Thanks

That's exactly what I am looking for. Just upgrade from C580 to Nuvi 680.(worth to upgrade) I can try the new feature now.

aaronelson...........

have you filed all your recording with the Library of Congress? They want all the recorded oral history they can get.
My Uncle was a fighter pilot in the Battle of Midway, got his oil line shot out, ditched his Hellcat, and was stranded on a deserted (he thought) island with several Japanese. After 3 days of hiding, and dodging, was rescued. He wrote a first hand account of the Battle of Midway, and his being stranded, and rescued. I recorded that onto CD, and the Library of Congress now has that as oral history of the battle.

library of congress

Thanks, Robert. That's a good suggestion. I haven't sent them to the Library of Congress yet, although I plan to in the future. I'm still in the process of transferring some 600 hours of interviews to CD and then will send the CDs to the Library. What irks me a bit is that with all the effort and publicity that has gone into the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project, it seems four out of five of the veterans I've interviewed have never been approached to record a story for the project. It sounds like your Uncle had quite a story to tell, and it's good that it was preserved.
