How/where to report map inaccuracies

Does anyone know how/where I can report map inaccuracies?

I have the City NT 2008 and a wrong exit number is showing up.

.

You can report it to Navteq (who supplies the map data to Garmin) using their Map Reporter tool.

Not Too Long.........

ago, a user posted a name, or contact at NavTeq who said he would take care of some inconsistencies. I don't remember who it was, and can't find the post now. Maybe he will come forward with the information (hope he does).

I also hope the person does. I have a bone to pick with them. I posted about it back in August but I would like to follow up.

I Don't Think........

the person that offered to help at Navteq should be held to "bone-picking". He only offered to follow up on some mapping problems. As far as follow up, I have requested my street/plus many more around me be added. That was over a year ago, and still haven't heard anything back, plus the streets are still not showing. If we are going to pick bones with him, I just as soon his name not be brought forward at my request.

thanks for the link but...

Thanks for the link MM.

But, I was able to lookup and it found the address I was missing in my Nuvi. What gives?

My Nuvi can't even find the entire road when I search for address. The NAVTEQ Map reporter found it right on.

I did this: I searched on the following address, 1204 magnolia hill rd garner nc 27529. Nuvi, no go...
On the NAVTEQ website it found the address, but lists it as this: 1204 magnolia hill rd, garner, wake, nc 27529.

Could the extra "Wake" be the cause of a no find in the Nuvi? Don't know where it came from. I am on my way there this weekend, with Google Maps in hand... I will see if I can look it up along the way using the "wake".

riddle me this...

I just noticed something else...

NAVTEQ supplies Google with map data. Both problems display correctly in Google Maps (exit numbers on Rt29 & Rt70, 21042) and (missing address).

Why do they not show up in my Nuvi correctly? Both are date stamped 2008 NAVTEQ...

.

Well, the reason you can't find it on your nuvi is that it doesn't exist in the map database on your nuvi. That's the simple answer. You can't find something that doesn't exist.

Now, as to why it's in Navteq's database and not in your nuvi is a more complicated answer. Garmin updates it's maps once per year with data that it gets from Navteq at some (publicly unknown) point during the year. Navteq updates it's maps (from what I've heard) quarterly, so it's entirely possible (in fact likely) that Naveteq will have information that Garmin doesn't.

Another thing to know about searching a database is that typically less information is better at the beginning of a search. Although it didn't specifically apply in your situation because the street is not even in the nuvi database, as you found, the city that you entered is different from the one that the address is listed in in the map database.

It is usually advisable when searching for an address to not put the city in the first time you search. Only if the search returns too many results, then go back and enter the city. Because if the city you entered is different from the one listed with the address, it will come up with no matches found.

The best thing to do in this situation is to find the location in Google Maps and enter the coordinates directly.
