BMP's

custom icons (.bmp's) can only be associated with custom POI's.

you cannot load custom icons for the built in POI's on your Garmin

Good catch! I read it as Miss POI did, that he wanted to know if he could use a POI Factory bmp with a POI Factory POI file (which didn't make a lot of sense as that is precisely what it is for). Your post clarified that the "factory" he is referring to is the Garmin factory.

Nuvi Newbie question - can't see POIs on 3D map

I have my Nuvi less than a week and have used it only in 3D mode. I have downloaded many POI files from this site and loaded them using POI loader. But I have never seen a POI (custom or factory) on the screen when driving down the road. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal operation? Thanks

OK

As a quick probable solution, zoom in all the way at a spot where a POI should exist. Although it differs by model, I believe yours should display the custom POI icons (or regular) in 3D mode at a zoom level of 200 ft or less. If you find the icon, zoom out until it disappears and then you'll know the limit. If that doesn't work, we'll ask you to verify that the POI's are really on the unit (that they were actually loaded and that you didn't run POI Loader multiple times, overwriting the previously loaded file each time.

Actually I have...

I have reloaded the custom POI files several times. Is that a problem? I have a 760.

I tried what you suggested (picked a local starbucks and let the simulator take me there). The starbucks symbol did show up as it arrived. When I tapped on the screen, it went into 2D mode and lots of other POIs came into view. When I went "back" to 3D mode, I only saw the one Starbucks icon. BTW, how do you know when you are at the 200' zoom level? Thanks

Stay in the 2d mode and you

Stay in the 2d mode and you (as you noticed) will see many more icons. You have to be in 2D for the scale.

Not a problem

It's only a problem if you try to load some files and then try to load the rest. Each time POI Loader runs it overwrites the previous file, so you need to load them all at once. I gather that is what you've been doing (loading all).
