Motorcycle help for Streetpilot 2610

I am trying help a friend of mine get a 2610 setup for use on his 2007 HD FLHTCI. Got almost everything he needs but am unsure of the patch cable that will run between the audio plug-in on the motorcycle power cable to the radio on the bike. His bike has the newer radio that HD is using made by Harmon-Kardon.

Can someone point me to the patch cable??

I am not a motorcycle user,

I am not a motorcycle user, so sorry. However, there are a few of them around here, main motorcycle mamma. Perhaps one of them can help you.

Confused.

I've read you question multiple times and I can't figure out where you are taking the cable to/from. If the cable, as you say, goes from the m/c power cable to the radio, what does that have to do with the GPS?

The motorcycle power cable

The motorcycle power cable has 2 outlets, one connects to the back of the GPS to provide power to it, the other is an audio outlet. On my bike with no radio, I just plug in an ear bud or use the helmet with a flat speaker velcroed to the inside and plugged into the audio cable.

On my buddy's bike (since he has a radio), the patch cable would run from the audio output on the power cable to the aux input jack on the front of the radio.

What are you hearing from the m/c audio output cable on a bike that has no radio?

Why does it have to be so late on the east coast -- here I am dragging my feet waiting for somebody with a good mental picture of this setup to jump in, and nothing is happening. smile

I'm confused about how the audio from the GPS gets TO anything. You are talking about a patch cable from a bike audio output to an aux input, but you don't mention anything going to the GPS. Why wouldn't you just take power to the GPS from the bike's power cable, and then go directly from the audio output on the GPS to the Aux on the HC via 1/8 inch plugs on both ends (I would presume 1/8 inch)? HELP!

Ed, there is a detailed post with pictures on the Zumo forum on installing a Zumo to a new Harley. You may need to register to view it. I think the same information would apply to the 26xx.

The other place to ask questions is the Motorcycle Tourers' Forum on Delphi. They are the experts on the 26xx, 27xx and 28xx.

I'm pretty sure as bentbiker has indicated that you need a simply male-male 1/8" to 1/8" audio cable. In the post on the Zumo forum, there's a link to the one he used.

Harley Dealer

Doesn't a Harley Dealer have the cable you need? If not, they should be able to direct you to a source. So many of their touring bikes have radios and GPS is a very common accessory these days.

The Garmin power cable for the bike also has an audio output cable on it. The cable has a Y splitter that separates power from audio. The audio connection there is a 2.5 or 1/8" (I guess as I'm no audio expert)female connector. Putting a cheap Radio Shack ear bud into that output source provides all the "speak" from the GPS unit. Don't know how else to explain it.

There is no audio output connector on the GPS. It's on the power cable.

Thanks, I'll check those out. I had thought about the simple cable but seem to recall last summer that someone had mentioned having a problem with a simple cable like that because of non-stereo GPS vs stereo on the Harley radio. I may also be remembering wrong. Just trying to avoid telling my buddy to buy something that ain't gonna work. LOL

Thanks

Guess I will have to get the latest info on the isolation cord from the maker although I may just try a Radio Shack cord. If it doesn't work, I can always take it back.

As stated above, if you need

As stated above, if you need a 1/8 to 1/8 cord, get it and then there is an adapter that that you can buy that will turn 1 channel (mono) to 2 channel (stereo). It won't be true stereo, but it will come through both speakers.
