It's not public knowledge how the database is compiled.

Wendy's shows up on my GPS unit. I can find them by spelling the name.

You can also add them as Custom POIs.

To find certain poi files, you may need to do a more basic search, such as "Wendy" I tried "Barnes Noble" today and it took forever, if I just put in "Barnes", it found the surrounding ones pretty fast.
