Garmin diagnostics screen / reset

This is also Valid for Nuvi 880

This does not appear to work with the Nuvi 270. All it does is highlight the See Map part of the screen.

these diags are also used to identify true garmin SD Cards. It is where the system locks cards to itself so that other devices can not use someone else's copy of the purchsased software.

On some of the models you have to hold your finger on the battery level portion of the screen for 10 seconds. (7xx series I believe) maybe even the new firmware that was previously mentioned for a 6xx series.

On the Nuvi 880, press and hold the MPH for the diagnostic screen to appear

Does anybody know what this screen means? There's so much information. Is it valuable?

Given that everyone appears to be reporting positive findings in getting to the technical screen, I tried a variety of screens/areas of my nuvi 270 to see if I could see the technical material. It does not work if I press on the time on the upper right of the screen, but it **does** kick into the technical screen if I press on the battery icon for about 8 seconds.

Awe man - I gotta trade my StreetPilot in for one of these Nuvi's...

Pretty much for Garmin technical support, say if call them claiming, you having a problem reading your sd card. They would check this screen first for diagnosis

WHY DID THEY LEAVE THAT ONE OUT OF THE MANUAL?? That's one of the most useful hidden 'features'.

There are two different diagnostic screens coming up in this thread. On the 760 at least, holding the battery indicator takes you to one set of diagnostics screens. Pressing on the speedometer on the virtual dashboard takes you to another set of screens.

But wait... there's more. From the satellite status screen, press and hold Elevation and you'll get a screen for signal to noise ratio logging.

Works on nuvi 255w, BUT only difference is you have to press the battery beside the clock to get into the diagnostics screen...

i used to work for a rental car dealer. i was given a gps for my driving needs. but now i want to reset so it doesn't say the rental car company name on it.

Contact Garmin and they will be able to assist you.

what are they gonna do for me? does it need to be reprogramed.

If its the screen that comes up on start-up, you can change it. You can make your own. Do a search on here for splash screens.

I would almost bet that garmin has hard-coded that Name as a splash screen, If the above link doesn't supplied by Fluxuated, then use Gadget Guy's suggestion and call Garmin.

I have the exact same problem during route calculation now on my Nuvi 660.
It gets stuck at 85% and then all kinds of problems occur including the one you described in your post.

I saw that your post is quite old already. But did you get any feedback yet from Garmin or did you find a solution to this problem?

How to Master Reset a Garmin 780 or 700 series

Hold your thumb on the bottom right of the screen while you restart the unit. Keep holding until the master reset screen comes up.

If you wish to keep & restore your favorites file, use the data cable and store the file "current.gpx. Find it in the devices "garmin/gpx" folder. After master resetting your device, copy the file back into the unit and restart the gps unit.

Resetting
Either hold power slide switch to the left for 8+ seconds or remove and reinstall battery.

Clearing User Data
Press lower-right corner of screen when status bar appears under Garmin logo. Hold it there until a prompt appears. Yes will clear all user input data and restore original settings.

Have performed all the above at least once.
BTW if the screen appears to get 'stuck' at the "Loading Maps" stage of booting up, it may be overwhelmed by all the user stuff and button pushing. I moved most of the maps, routes, etc to the laptop. Then booting was simpler AND successful.

Before doing this, two hours wasn't enough to 'chew' through the software mess I made- I thought I had wrecked my toy

Resetting GPS and data is from manual. Go to Garmin and download it.
The last part was my fumbling and passing experience along.

I couldn't get the screen to come up. No matter how far I wedged my fingertip into the corner, I always managed to highlight Setup.

Then I recalibrated the touchscreen and it came up. Interesting info there.

is resetting the 1390T works the same way..?

To get to diagnostics screen on Nüvi 2XX series is a LITTLE more complicated.

1. Go to main screen (Where To? / View Map)
2. Press View Map
3. Press the oval in the bottom-left that shows your speed.
4. Press and hold inside large circle that shows speed (in center of unit)

This will take you to the diagnostic screen. With people who have Traffic Updates (free) and it doesn't work... you can click next 7 times to GTM TABLES.
Click Reset.

This will reset your traffic tables and should allow your Nüvi to communicate with the Traffic Transmitter.

Works on 1350 and has given me something else to mess with.

We just got a Nuvi 40LM for our daughter to replace the Nuvi 660 and had all the favorites set up then tried it out and could not get any GPS signals. We could not disable the GPS simulator or the Demo mode. Went to this forum and found this subject and tried the suggested fix and it works now. Thank you POI Factory for coming thru.

Worked on my 1390T.

Don't know if this is already out there, but works for the Nuvi 67. 1 go to the volume screen press and hold the top right corner it'll bring you to a whole new set of settings.

Did not work on my Zumo 660. Just passing that along.
