Garmin diagnostics screen / reset

Saw this elsewhere, and thought it would be something others here would be interested in - how to get to a system info/diagnostics screen set for Nuvis - works for my 350, should work for others Nuvi models, possibly others too...

When you're at the main screen, hold your finger on the time in the upper right corner for more than 5 seconds, and you'll get to an info screen, and back/next buttons lower right of screen.

There's some sound diagnostics, and screen tests, and lots of info pages - including one with some battery status/statistics. To get out of the diagnostic mode, power cycle your unit...and when you do this, it will take some time to lock on to satellites.

Have fun...

Nuvi 370

I had to close the antenna then the diagnostics came up after pressing the time for 5 seconds. Pressing with the antenna up did not allow diagnostics.

Something Similar

Hi,

I just got a new Garmin Nuvi 660, preloaded with European map version 9. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. The nuvi 660 I have got the software version 3.7 (updated via webupdater). When I try a route a bit long with a route setting set to "Faster Route" it starts calculating the route and gets stuck at around 85% (repeatedly) and then returns this error message: "Route Calculation Error: Not Enough Memory". I have been phoning Garmin US and Europe with not much luck. They try to convince me that this is ok. I am just wanting to know if anybody else is experiencing the similar problem and have found a solution for it? Could I do something by using the diagnostics screen?

Regards,

Yavuz

Had the same thing happen whe I accidentally tried to calcualte a route from Texas to Assissi, Italy. (DUH!!) In this case I would have expected the message. Otherwise, I have plotted transcontinental routes in the US without problems.

2820 diagnostics

does anyone know if there is a similar diagnostic routine for the 2820??

thanks

My 660 locked up too

and I had to do a 'reset' to recover.

Old Guys Rule

I tried the reset on C330 now it wouldn't power up..

I tried the reset on C330 .Now it wouldn't power up and is not recognized by my PC..Am I screwed??

Got a screwdriver?

You could try disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds.

I've had to do this on my C510, when I got it into a knot.

Mine had a similar issue after a reset. After the reset try plugging in the AC Power cable and if needed then pressing the power button...

Diag screen on 250

On my Nuvi 250, I have to press & hold the battery bars and not the time to get in.

I'm intrigue by all the tweaking that can be done but more than a bit leary of actually fiddling with these.

Thanks for the tip!

re : Diag screen on 250

Thanks for the tip, docblasken. Now I can reach the diag screen on my 250W. It'S also press and hold the battery bar ... grin

Diagnostics for the 2720

Here's how to get to the diagnostics screen on the 2720 along with some other undocumented features that I pulled from the GPS Passion Forum:

1. Diagnostic Screens. Hold down menu and find buttons then turn on the unit it will boot to a diagnostic screen. This screen tells you such information as software and firmware versions, unit temperature, what type data card you have in it. When on the diagnostic screen you can press page repeatedly to see a bunch of different testing screens.

2. Diagnostic Screens. Other button sequence on bootup are:
Page+Find then turn unit on = force autolocate
Page+Menu then turn unit on = clear user settings

3. Go Home. Pressing FIND button twice quickly: Option to Route HOME. HOME is a waypoint you create and named HOME.

4. Volume Control.
a. Press and hold SPEAK button, the control for volume shows up, volume at current setting.
b. Press it again, the volume is set to Maximum.
c. Press it again, the volume is set to Minimum (Mute)
d. Press it again, the volume is set to current setting (step a).

5. Define Waypoint by entering Lat/Long. Press and hold the page key until a new waypoint is created. Then tap on the location and edit it for the new lat/lon. You can only use the dd mm.mmm in WGS 84 format.

Holding down Menu and Find

Holding down Menu and Find together doesn't work on my 2720. To get to the diag screen, turn the unit off. Press and hold the menu button, then turn the unit on (while still holding the menu button).

Press the menu button additional times to go to various pages.

Where do you, or how do you get or capture the screen images of your nuvi that are posted on your website?

.

If you go to Settings/Wrench > Display > Screenshot On, you activate the screenshot feature. You can then take a screenshot by pressing and releasing the Power button. The pictures can be accessed when you connect your nuvi to your computer.

Unt Frozen on Diagnstic Screen

After reading this thread I thought I'd try it on my brand new Nuvi 200W. I found that by pressing on the power meter I got to a very useful screen showing satellite status, longitude/latitude, speed and elevation. The diagnostic screens accessed by pressing the battery indicator, or the moving average button, contained a whole lot of information that did not mean much to me (I'm a newbie).

Then my brand new toy froze in diagnostic mode. Connecting the USB (as suggested earlier did nothing). The only way I could get it to work again was you leave it in the state it was until the battery gave out.

Tricks

Works well on my 650. A different set of screens when coming from the moving average than the time. Both interesting.

Question - is the hardware present in the 650 for FM and bluetooth, with only a need to unlock them?

Try Reset for Unit Frozen on Diagnostic Screen

djohns18, you might try pressing the reset button on the bottom of your 200W.

This technique worked for me when my wife's nuvi 650 froze in diagnostics mode.

Didn't know there was one.

WASSup,

I looked for a reset button when it froze, but did not see one (it does not look like the typical reset button). I can see it now hiding under the serial number decal.

Thanks for the info, by the way - do I lose all my favorites etc. if I use the reset?

Works on the Garmin 200w model

Specifically i used the end of a pen to press where the Battery status is displayed. Slightly lower and it gets registered as pressing the view maps button. Lots of nice to know information. A few lock ups that required a reset, some shut downs too.

works on my Garmin Nüvi 200W but a little bit different

I had to hold down the battery icon but the same thing happened. Pretty cool diagnostic screen.

Took some pictures, here at my flickr set for them

The neatest feature was the moving alternating video pattern, pretty.

I did the same thing with the same model 200W. Once it froze-up, there was nothing to press, switch or toggle that would turn it off. I had to wait for the battery to run out.

I could be completely wrong about this, but it seemed to run better when I started it up again after the shutdown?!

mine never froze and it

mine never froze and it seems to be working fine

Diagnostic screen

What a fantastic tip!
I just tried it.
Thanks!

Works with the Nuvi200W.

Works with the Nuvi200W. plus, at least for the 200W you can go into the trip page and if you hold the speedometer for about 9 seconds then you will get another screen.

Very cool

This is why I love this site. Great work.

Thanks

Time warp?

Whenever I go into this diagnostic (pressing on clock), my time resets to 8:00 PM. Anyone else?

(I was able to power down without hitting reset.)

EASTER EGGS.

Nope. I have a 260w and pressing the sattellite status bar in the upper left corner for 3 seconds brings a sattellight acquision screen. Prett cool, lists lon and lat position and real time changes as you walk. Also shows speed and elevation as well as satellite strength.
My friend has a 260 and he can't get to the sattellite page as I described above. I don't get it? Anyone know how to get to the sattellite page with a 260?
P.S. This is a great site. Thanks to all of you. I'm new to this site and my Garmin 260w. I've already learned so much. Thanks again.

Q

Yes, that's how it works. It resets until it regains a satellite lock.

Info

As long as some info is kept back you need to call in to do the diagnostics they can always have the upper hand.
