Videos for the Nuvi 660

Are there any video formats that will play on the nuvi 660 or does it only display .jpg still immages?

No

There are no video formats for Nuvis. And if there were, it would make it likely that they could legally be classified as TVs, severely limiting where they could be mounted in a vehicle.

This sounds like a great pet project! Time to start doing some investigation as it would come oh so very handy while I wait for my wife to finish her shopping.

Then Again...

I have reason to believe that the 660 IS capable of playing videos.

My reasoning being:

1. In the Diag mode, a "video clip" is playing. (Could be a animated .gif)

2. Best buy has their display units on some kind of Demo Mode. I saw the 200W today playing an actual VIDEO, of a man getting into the car and puttin the Nuvi in its "cradel". This couldnt have been an animated gif, because the quality was just to nice. It was like a commercial you would see on TV.

There HAS to be a way to play videos on the Nuvi. I mean if the 200W can do it, then my 660 should too. Just need to find the format Garmin has.

Later

Display units are not the same as production units

They are what they are - Display units, with special programming that will never be available in off the shelf production units.

And again, I bring up the issue: If a GPSr is capable of playing full motion video, it would be classified as a TV for purposes of motor vehicle law & regulation and could NEVER be mounted in a position where it could be seen by the driver of the vehicle.

Hmmm

Yeah, thats true about the whlole TV thing. But they make Car sterio decks that can play videos, as long as the E-Brake is on.

Soo..

Then garmin could make it so that the videos wnt play if the Antenna is open.
