Suppose I have a folder with a couple of files say "rest stops" and "food". I have protected this folder so that I won't overwrite by changing the name. Then I want to add a "rest stop" to the existing file. Can I do this as long as the file "food" is in the same folder. If so, how or should I just have one file per folder and protect each file by changing the name on the SD?

Adding additional stops to a file

If I understand correctly, you have a folder on your PC with several POI files in it, one of which is named "rest stops". You have found an additional location and want to add the information to the file.
If the files are ".csv" format, it is quite simple. Using a program such as Microsoft Excel, open the .csv file from your PC and then make any additions or changes. Do a save as and pick ".csv" as the file type with the same name, and it will overwrite your original file. You could also change the name (for safety) and save it, later on exchanging that file with the original one, once you are sure it is in proper format.
I recommend using a program for verification, such as POI Verifier, to make sure that all was entered and saved in the correct format.
Then, use POI loader to replace all of the files on your GPS.

Yes, I see how to do that.
Yes, I see how to do that. What I was wondering is if I could only replace the one file "Rest Stop" without overwriting the other files. I believe I must isolate the file "Rest Stop" from the other files to prevent overwriting. I know how to do that. It seems that overwriting is a fact of life unless you have files that will not change in the future. Thanks, Joe
Skip
Just "skip" the files you don't won't to load when using POI Loader.

Name Change
Your question isn't very clear. I'm guessing that you are talking about after using POIloader, and keeping it from overwriting the .gpi file.If this is the case then Yes, you can keep that from occuring by changing the name from POI.GPI to FOOD.GPI. POIloader will only overwrite the file named POI.GPI.
