Have you attempted to contact Garmin. If the person registered the product, you might be able to trace it back to its original owner.

nüvi 200

yes i bought it off of a guy

yes i bought it off of a guy and didn't notice the sticker damage to the serial until i got home. i don't know for sure if it was stolen in the bay area but since that's where it ended up that's about all i can do. i called garmin and its not registered, but without a doubt its stolen, why else would anyone try and scratch out the serial. just taking due diligence to find its home before i go ahead and use it, because its not registered and i did pay for it, so if i can't get it back to the original owner, i'll use it, and thank them in my head whenever i turn it on smile

just curious

If you don't mind sharing, how much did you pay for it?

If you press the "Go Home" button does it take you to your home or someone elses? smile

"Go Home"

It takes you to wherever the original user set it to take you.

well it was part of an electronics trade, so i can't really say a $ value, but it would have been in the neighborhood of 350$ and it seemed fishy it was the only thing without a box. the guy was honest enough, but when i checked it well, i saw the sticker scratches. i tried the home button and i'm pretty sure the system has been wiped, there's no presets, no favorites, no home..etc...just trying to help someone out. if you know any stolen serials let me know and i'll see if this is it. i had to get the serial with barcode scanner at work because the numbers were scratched out..stupid theives lol

Stolen Garmin 650...

I think the serial number is also listed under the system information within the firmware. I had a 660 but don't have it now. Most GPS' have the serial embedded in the firmware under the system info listing.
